NEW HAVEN Hannah is a 14-year-old girl, clad in leggings and an oversize T-shirt, with long brown hair that she curls around a finger. She was also born a boy.
The government cant seem to decide whether it should affirm children like Hannah. President Trump jumped from supporting workplace protections for transgender people to ending supportive policies for transgender students in public schools. The Supreme Court waffled on whether or not these kids can use the bathrooms of their identified genders, sending the question back to the Fourth Circuit. Last month, North Carolina repealed a law that forced transgender people to use the bathroom corresponding with the gender on their birth certificates, while strangely prohibiting schools from adopting policies that would let transgender students use the bathroom of their choice.
Politicians could learn something from the doctors who treat these patients. Over the past few years, it has become clear that if we support these children in their transgender identities instead of trying to change them, they thrive instead of struggling with anxiety and depression.

Not too many years ago this type of treatment was considered, appropriately, as medical and psychological malpractice.
While I feel for Hannah, the victim of a mental illness that is not being properly treated, HE is not a GIRL.
We live in a sick world.
How long, O, Lord?
I’m waiting for boys to start showing up at the gynecologist office, demanding to get an IUD put in.
Fake news of the century.
She’s a dude, Jim.
Do they think that the diseases and cancers of the prostate are going to give a **** what everybody calls Jonah/Hannah?
The amount of drugs and chemicals which Jonah/Hannah is going to have to take to keep their fantasy active will also have an affect on them.
Reality will come back to bite their ass in so many ways.
Hannah has mental health issues. Her doctors ought to treat that
The American Academy of Pediatrics has published a paper that correctly describes indulging these obvious mental illnesses as child abuse.
The inability to accept ones biological reality is a serious mental illness and should be treated as such and not encouraged.
Long term damage is being done to these children.
‘Critics point to flawed studies that suggest that roughly 80 percent of prepubescent children ultimately change their minds about being transgender. Even if this were true, would it have been worth forcing Hannah to live as a boy, putting her at risk for depression and perhaps suicide?’
And if he changes his mind he certainly won’t be depressed or suicidal.
I just read a story of a transgendered woman who regretted taking hormone blockers because he failed to grow an adequate sexual organs and couldn’t use it to do a surgical change.
But the author’s hypothetical use of anecdotes to editorialize is noted.
It still is by responsible pediatricians.
So if we assume that some young man at some point finds her attractive...then what.
You wine her, dine her, reach your hand up her skirt only to find you’re holding a tree trunk.
This is the kind of stuff that gets people killed.
Better to treat the symptoms of the dysphoria, and train him to be a man.
How? Doing a Pap test, prescribing birth control pills, or what?
His doctor.
The real source of mental illness here is not poor Jonah, but his parents.
It was bad enough when psychologists were simply indulging these kids’ desire to dress in girls’ clothes and be called “she” instead of “he” (or vice versa with girls who claimed to be boys), but now that the medical profession is actually proscribing hormone and other medical treatments, its horrifying and obscene. This really will be looked back on in the same way that we currently look back on lobotomies and the wide use of shock therapy — future medical professionals will look back in horror.
The NAZIS are vindicated for the 1936 Olympics as what they did then is considered “normal” now.
What else did the Nazis do that will soon be considered “normal or progressive”? GOD HELP US ALL!
