I would hazard to guess that if you read what is printed on a ticket (and you could ask) that these sorts of things are covered in the description. To me calling for a 10X payment for inconveniencing oneself seems drastic. We each have our own tastes, I guess.

I am no fan of today’s airlines. But I remember flying in the late 50s all through the 80s and parts of the 90s. Frankly, it was wonderful. Your mileage may vary, of course. It is when government inserted itself is when everything good about it went wrong.

United is a public company. They make a profit. They wanted to move a crew to another city. So they decided to pull passengers. How is this OK. United has lots of money if they want to buy back a seat. They will charge more when seats become scarce. So they should pay more when one of those seats are needed by United. United had lots of options before they drag a person off the plane.

I hope more people do what that doctor did. They should just sit there screaming until they are dragged off. If more people do it. Airlines will never pull another passenger off the plane. Just think how long that flight sat their while they handled this issue.

For me, it’s more than “inconvenient”. I used to fly standby a lot and I LOATHED it. I hated wondering if I was going to make it on the plan and might have to wait a day - or two. One time I needed to get back from Chicago to Seattle and ended up swapping four or five flights, to get to Seattle, the last leg of which was from Anchorage on a “half passenger, half cargo 737 that looked like it was full of passengers from Nanook of the North’s extended family.
