Wal-Mart is recalling packaged salad mixes made by Fresh Express after a dead bat was found inside a box labeled as Organic Marketside Spring Mix, the Miami Herald reported. The recall affects stores in the Southeastern U.S., including Louisiana locations.
There is a "minimal" chance of spreading rabies through dead animal body parts in food, the Herald reported, and the bat was being tested for the disease. The Herald reported that two people were eating the salad when they found the dead bat inside, but because of "the deteriorated condition of the bat," the CDC was unable to determine whether it had rabies.
The Centers for Disease Control and the Florida Department of Health are investigating how the bat got inside the salad packaging. Because of the risk of rabies, both people have been recommended to begin rabies treatment, and both are in good health, the Herald reported.

Was it a pre-washed salad? I've always hated these pre-washed salads. I've never trusted them as being clean or fresh.
Was it at least a FRESH bat?
Bush meat.
If they sell chicken salad, why not bat salad?
It says organic salad. I wonder if it was an organic bat.
Are there GMO or ersatz bats?
If I were the CEO of Fresh Express, I would be looking for a place to retire right about now...maybe Bora Bora or someplace like that, distance-wise ;)
The pre-bagged salads are sprayed with something that leaves a residue that makes my girlfriend’s mother sick if she eats it.
Health officials:
“Luckily the bat was too dead and rotten to bite you!
Don’t you feel better?”
I got ecoli from a bagged salad, along with a lot of other people. Not fun.

Live bat = no problem.
Was it a San Diego Padre bat? They only hit .235 last year. Lots of dead bats.
There’s a joke in there somewhere.

Yup.
Organic too!
Dead rodents in the salad?
I was in this restaurant once where I looked up at the translucent or semi transparent cover over the ceiling lights, and could see a silhouette of big old hairy rat walking over the tables.
I couldn’t help myself, while everyone was eating and jawing, I cleared my throat, looked up and said, is that what I think it is...Most of the restaurant emptied.
They charge extra for that in some places.
Maybe they’re Organic bats.
I was at a Mexican restaurant in Birmingham one night and a rat ran across the floor. I mentioned it to my date and continued to eat.
