If Assad falls...expect Turkey to move on the Kurds...maybe annex a big chunk of Syrian territory.....meanwhile the Russians want to hold on to their naval base.
I find it incredibly difficult to find a rationale motive for Assad ordering this attack////
What rationale motive was there for Hitler to order the 6th Army to hold Stalingrad?

What he might hope to attain by this attack is to break the will of his enemies by showing them that is immune from justice and can strike them with impunity.
Putin does not want muslims in Russia. He will either stay out of it or side with President Trump.
We the People elected President Trump, as we respected him. Show him that respect by using the 2 terms Mr. President or President Trump. I know we all got use to being derogatory with DUMBO but he earned it, President Trump has done what we elected him to do; give him the privilege of calling him what he now is President Trump. Even conservative news makes this error. I expect no better from the left, who always said President obama.
