An intriguing faith-based detective story in which an investigative reporter becomes a true believer.
Although it sporadically errs on the side of sentimentality and simplification, The Case for Christ sustains interest, and even generates mild suspense, while offering a faith-based spin on the template of an investigative-journalism drama. Director Jon Gunn and screenwriter Brian Bird have shrewdly reconstituted Lee Strobels best-selling book about his road-to-Damascus transition from outspoken atheist to devout Christian as a kind of theological detective story. Of course, theres never any real doubt as to how the story will be resolved.

If you can, PLEASE see this film.
Loved the book.. While dating my soon to be husband I saw he had the book and we joke today because he noticed it on my shelf too. Missed the film, due to work.. but I can’t wait to see it on DVD. Of course hubby had the hardback edition and I have my tattered paperback. Both of them are still on our shelf together.
Mrs and I saw it last eve. First movie we have seen together in a theatre since we went to see the March of the Penguins.
What stood out to me was how Stroble’s wife clung to her new faith and was instrumental in moving God by her prayers and her changed character to affect her husband’s transformation.
? The movie is out NOW.
All I hope is Christ has a case for me, sheesh.
Good take on it....
I’ve got the Book...somewhere!
Father, I know that I have broken your laws and my sins have separated me from you. I am truly sorry, and now I want to turn away from my past sinful life toward you. Please forgive me, and help me avoid sinning again. I believe that your son, Jesus Christ died for my sins, was resurrected from the dead, is alive, and hears my prayer. I invite Jesus to become the Lord of my life, to rule and reign in my heart from this day forward. Please send your Holy Spirit to help me obey You, and to do Your will for the rest of my life. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
btt
The movie is in theaters right now. There’s still time for you to see it at a theater.
Working six evenings a week I’m afraid.. :(
I am excited to see the film. When the book came out in the late 90’s I had a business acquaintance who was dying of AIDS. We were friendly, but not close, though I knew him well enough to know he was an agnostic. He was a brilliant man who had graduated from MIT, became a physician, and then earned a PhD before taking a company public and becoming fabulously wealthy.
When I learned the severity of his condition I wrote him a letter and sent him “The Case for Christ” and “Mere Christianity” by C.S. Lewis. I knew that my Christian beliefs were counter to his modern scientific understanding of reality and that I was radically different from the people in his world. Despite our differences he had always seemed curious about me and we’d had several poignant conversations. I had the sense I could get his attention and that he would read the books.
A couple of days before he died he dictated a letter to me. He wanted me to know he read both books before he lost his eyesight and that he had accepted Christ. Was he truly born again? I have no way to know. His soul is in God’s hands. I still regret that I sent him books rather than hopping on a plane and witnessing to him in person.
Today I’m a presuppositionalist, but I still think The Case for Christ is a great and impactful book.
It's not a detective story. The book is a poorly written apologetic.
Your name suits you well.
I read the book 20 or so years ago, very compelling.
I read the review over at Hot Air, it does sound good. The author’s name is vaguely familiar to me, I seem to remember him. I think he was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize, so he must have had at least 1/2 a brain in his head. Thanks for posting this.
That is a good prayer, I’ve actually never heard it before. Could you tell me anything more about it?
Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis.”
That is a great book. My father was a very faithful Christian, he truly believed. When I read Mere Christianity it was like spending time with my dad, although he was long gone. A great experience for me.
You will never convert a non believer to a believer with facts. They need to have a conversion experience with the Holy Spirit. Apologetics is fun and interesting, but IMO,a dead end exercise. I haven't seen the movie or read the book, but I'm willing to guess this guy had a supernatural unexplainable experience that changed him. God is not looking for a person that follows Him because it makes sense. He is looking for people that love Him. Knowing about Jesus isn't the same as knowing Him. Knowing about Jesus doesn't make you trust Him and rely on Him for provision. Faith is something that He gives as a free gift to those that He chooses. Faith is what saves you. Sin doesn't send you to Hell. Your unbelief sends you to Hell. Jesus paid the price for all sin on the cross. If sin condemned you, He would have to die again because the first time didn't take. If apologetics could save you, we need to issue a booklet to everyone old enough to read to save the world. Supernatural encounters change you heart, information changes your mind. You could be the biggest atheist alive and encounter Jesus and your mind will follow your heart so fast your head will spin off. apologetics is a fun exercise, but faith is serious business. Just as the Apostles all went to their deaths serving Christ, I too, am willing to give my life for Him. I wouldn't do that for a good book. We are asked everyday to take the mark of the Beast. When we agree with abortion, we agree with Molech or Baal. When we are asked to agree with gay marriage, we agree with Sodom. There is coming a day soon, that those left behind will be asked to take the name of the AntiChrist, and thinking they are saving their lives, they will do it. The time of Grace is over. Jesus said, "If you deny Me before men, I will deny you before the Father." There will be no more "mulligans". The time you buy for yourself cannot be more than 3.5 years and Scripture promises sores and a horrible death, and then Hell, just because you wouldn't give your life for Jesus. You can LIVE your life for Him now and go in the Rapture, or be left behind as in Mat 25:1-6 and have to give you physical life for Him later.
The Bible proves itself over and over as truth, yet skeptics refuse to believe no matter what happens.
This one is on my list to see
It is known as the Sinners Prayer.
