I think it was Isaiah Thomas (I might be wrong) who said that Larry Byrd would only be considered a mediocre player if he were black. BTW, how many white guys were on UCLA’s first National Championship teams?

It was, and it made a BIG stir when it was printed. What didn’t make big news was later in the week, when the recorded comment was played. It was clear Thomas was joking, and it was merely a locker room wise crack. I am NO defender of Isaiah, in most situations, but even Byrd admitted that it was a “no big deal” kind of joke.
