Right now, putin could pick a less vile person than his buddy assad. If putin really wants to have his bases in Syria in the future to outflank the West, he needs to move against assad.

Yes indeed and Putin better think twice about trying to spar rhetorically with Pres. Trump publicly to try to win popular sentiment. Pooty doesn’t play in the same league.

Putin actually bailed on Assad just yesterday. He said the Russians were not indissolubly connected to Assad, but wanted to discuss it.

I don’t think Assad used chemical weapons, particularly considering the suspect sources of the claim that he did, but obviously everybody has come to consider him a problem. So we shall see what happens next.

I hope they have somebody decent lined up to replace him and not a nut bag jihadi “rebel.”
