Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., bemoaned the state of the Senate on Thursday as Majority Leader Mitch McConnell moved to change the chambers rules in order to break through the Democratic filibuster of Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch with a simple majority. Earlier in the day, Republicans failed to reach the 60-vote supermajority needed to end debate and proceed to a vote.
Its a bad day for democracy, McCain said before entering the Senate chamber, where he later voted with fellow Republicans to change the rules. I think its a terrible mistake that we will regret for many, many years to come.
McCain called the rule-change a slippery slope that will clearly lead to more extreme appointments for both sides and could embolden senators to change the rules for considering legislation, too.
We went from judges, to [a] Supreme Court justice, McCain said. Whats next?
McConnell has said he would not change the Senate rules for legislation.

They could just use Meghan for that.
“he later voted with fellow Republicans to change the rules”
He’s NOT a Republican. He’s the leader of the Fossil party . . .
Like his fellow Hilton guests I really detest this prick gollum
Perhaps, but since this is a republic, it's a good day for the republic.
Democracy is greatly overrated as a form of government. Sure, some democratic features are desirable, but there is always the tendency to become overly dependent on simple majority rule, when there is either a problem of great complexity to be resolved, or the two sides become so polarized there is no chance of reconciliation.
Democracy only really works when there is a continuing agreement to make reasonable compromises.
A motion to adjourn is always in order, and especially so if time is needed for tempers to cool.
You’re there to get things done not to sit around ,flap your gums and complain
LOL...thank you for that picture...I hope to someday learn how to post pictures, so I have it saved...thanks!!!
I honestly wish he would.
“Wait....he said it was a terrible, terrible decision, but then voted for it? Am I missing something?”
Yeah. John McCain is cuffing nuts, and probably senile as well, but for just a moment of clarity, he bowed to the inevitable.
He knows darned well, that the Democrats would not spend one second of angst, about whether or not to do the same, if THEY were the ones in this position. Not ONE second. That idiot Tim Kaine announced their decision to “go nuclear”, after he and Haggery were “going to win the election”. Thank God they lost. Now, the democrats just plan on trying to worry Trump out of office by nibbling at his ankles for the next 4-8 years. Good old McLame is more than happy to assist them, where necessary. I’m frankly amazed he went along with the vote. Makes me wonder what’s up his sleeve. It’s not like him to back conservatives, let alone Trump.
Yes, he also accused Republicans of hypocrisy for voting to change the rules two days ago, then today voted to change the rules.
Every day that McCain sits in the Senate is a bad day for democracy.
The AZ azzhole is back.
Thorazine bump!
McCain is brain-dead and extremely evil. Democracy is the tyranny of the majority. We don’t have an evil democracy which makes individuals into slaves of the majority. Democracy leads ONLY to socialism and then communism. It is diabolical.
He is right. We do have a democracy now—we have a Rule of Man-—no longer do we have a Constitutional Republic “Rule of Law” (Higher Laws rather than irrational man-made up cr*- “law” which is unconstitutional).
