Don Rickles, Legendary Insult Comic, Dies at 90

Rickles died Thursday morning at his home in Los Angeles from kidney failure, his longtime publicist Paul Shefrin confirmed.

Goodbye, Don. My father went to Las Vegas regularly in the ‘50’s and ‘60’s on golf and gambling junkets with his country club pals. Now my father was rather distinctive looking in a sort of blond Germanic Frank Sinatra fashion and Rickles picked up on it and would use him as a foil every time the told man walked into the lounge. This went on for years. RIP, funny man, and thanks for all the Tonight shows.

Rickles was always sure to give Frank credit for helping his career.

He was enlisted Navy during WWII, Johnny Carson, Ed McMahon were both officers. He would joke about that during his routine.

That is such a shame. I was just complimenting him a few weeks ago regarding his appearance on the TV show "Hot in Cleveland". I opined that he didn't look to have aged much since "Kelly's Heroes."

I was pulling for him to keep going. I am sorry to hear that he has died.

Such a good movie. One of my favorite scenes is when Rickles tells the card cheat they should count his winnings in the office and orders a nice bottle of champagne.

Rickles spies Frank Sinatra in a restaurant:
“Hey, Frank, it would mean a lot to me if you’d come over to my table and say hi.”
Frank: “Sure Don”
Frank waits for Don the rejoin the party at his table then gets up, garnering the attention of the whole restaurant. The din of the crowd lessens as he approaches Don’s table.
Frank: Hello Don, good to see you.
