If bombs fell on Damascus, then the “ rebels” have an Air Force

Haaretz does not have a good reputation.

Here is an insight then: Assad knows from Obama’s past failed red line due to the UK shrinking away, to the current Administration stated policy, to fellow War Criminal Putin blocking at the UN, that he can get away with these war crimes. Which makes his hold on power as a Strongman even more secure.

All I know is that I worked in a pulp plant back in the 80s. One day I was downstairs in the bleaching part of the plant and we had a release of chlorine gas. To me it much more green and vivid than the yellow colored gas this report details. All I know is I got the hell out of there.

Haaretz headline now begins: “Conflicting Reports of New Chemical Attack in Syria”

only the Israeli press reporting it so far; we’ll see if it disappears or gets picked up by other meda.

it’s a re-run of a story that pops up now and again - helicopters drop chlorine on al-Lataminah, so they can use photos from previous occasions when the allegations were eventually debunked:

Report: New chemical attack in Syria leaves numerous casualties
Jerusalem Post Israel News-15 minutes ago

the good news is reports from the Brussels Syria peace talks suggest saner heads are prevailing. hope Trump is getting good advice.

I am unconvinced that anyone knows who used these weapons. I simply don’t know and I don’t think that the people who are making the usual noises know either. I don’t put it past the rebels to have stockpiled these weapons and for their stockpiles to have been bombed by Conventional Weapons and the gases and chemicals been released in that fashion. I simply don’t know. I know that John McCain doesn’t know. I know the West has an unbroken history of m9aking wrong moves in this part of the world. Every time. Every single time.

Israel does not want peace in Syria - they benefit from chaos
Things were actually starting toward a brokered peace over the past 3 months - trump and the Russians were going to work out something even if the rhetoric didn’t match that
Israel ramped up its air attacks around Damascus ostensibly to take out Hezbollah but who knows - Russia threatened to take out their aircraft if they didn’t knock it off
Desparate times call for desparate actions

Always trying to start a war with Russian aren’t you. Too bad you won’t be the one fighting it.

Sounds plausible as I have my doubts and suspicions, a supposed double act of perfidy gives me doubt.

Oops maybe they released the report too early
Like the “ rebel” Twitter feed about the preps for a pending media campaign about the other chem attack that preceded the attack
Which in fact referenced chlorine, not sarin

Chlorine gas is more green than yellow.

Chlorine doesn’t even have to be a weapon to be weaponized
ISIS captured and held water treatment plant in eastern SYRIA which gave them ample stocks of chemical
Which I believe they used in Iraq- not sure which agent they used there but they reportedly did use CW vs Iraqi troops

It appears that chlorine mixed with nerve agent killed 70 people in an opposition held town that was under attack by the forces of Assad. Each side accuses the other. (Assad says they hit a site that was manufacturing chemical weapons.)

If ISIS, al Qaida or the Free Syrian Army had deployed nerve agent either in Syria or in Iraq, there would be symptoms. Ditto if any opposition force had deployed mustard agents. ISIS and al Qaida are guilty of many atrocities. I wouldn’t be surprised if either used chemical weapons (or nuclear weapons for that matter). But, the place has UN teams that check allegations of the use of chemical weapons. We would know.

Saddam Hussein and Bashar al-Assad have used chemical weapons. I’m not saying it’s our job to get rid of such people. But, let’s not kid ourselves. They are bad people.

Perhaps luckily for you, you don’t have a good understanding of how Strongmen retain power.

Explain to us how it’s a problem we should deal with using our blood and treasure?

That entire AO had it’s chance and screwed the pooch.
Western Europe under cut us and back stabbed us at every opportunity too.

If the people of the EU are so concerned about it, let them spend their own blood and treasure. Each of the countries in the EU claim to have decently sized military forces.

Mount up or shut up. That’s the only response we should have.

“Possibly Soros filled the bombs, and McCain flew the choppers.”

You may have hit upon the strategy that is being employed. For sure, Soros money is being spent to steer the narrative in a certain direction, and John McCain eagerly expands on that narrative.

John McCain really, really wants the US to blunder into another Middle East morass, thinking this is the way to really frame up the Trump World as the heavies, and “prove” the NeverTrumpers were correct in their assessment all along, that Trump would lead us into war in his naivety and inexperience.

Yet another NeverTrumper has misunderestimated The Donald. This may also be a way to smoke out the Deep State embedded operatives within the CIA and military intelligence agencies.

There are definitely two streams of assessments being followed, one loyal to the concept of a diminished America, and one dedicated to determining objective truth.

Objective truth - Syria is not our problem, it is a problem for the various Muslim factions, and the widespread fratricide, though terrible and even devastating, is simply Muslims being all they can be. It is the collateral damage that keeps occurring that has sucked us in time after time.

I know. Ignorance is bliss. The usual way for strongmen to retain power is to commit atrocities that cause their US and Russian allies and proxies to disavow them, give in accede to international condemnation and execute ARCLIGHT raids on you principal military headquarters and presidential palaces.

Its a surefire technique that works every time!
