Joe Scarborough: My pet rock could have defeated Hillary Clinton in 2016
The Washington Times ^ | Monday, April 3, 2017 | Seth McLaughlin

Posted on 04/04/2017 3:32:32 PM PDT by TBP

Former Florida Rep. Joe Scarborough said Monday his pet rock could have toppled Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election, thanks to all the baggage she carried into the contest.

“My pet rock could have gotten 45 percent against Hillary Clinton,” Mr. Scarborough said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “Maybe if my pet rock didn’t make any gaffes in the three debates, my pet rock could have beaten Hillary Clinton.”

Mr. Scarborough, a Republican, said the election was not about President Trump, who won the electoral college and lost the popular vote to Mrs. Clinton by a 48 percent to 46 percent margin.

“This election was not about Donald Trump,” he said.

“It was all about Hillary and Bill Clinton.”

>Yes, I think he might have. There was a major anti-0bama, anti-Hillary vote just waiting to be tapped into.
>Michigan is a different state than it used to be. Pennsylvania is redder than most people think.

Ted couldn’t have made the appeal on trade that Trump did due to his donor base. Trump took a lot of crap for his non-traditional republican positions but it also freed him up from owing anyone anything so he could do things Ted couldn’t do.

Secondly any dirty laundry that Ted has would have been aired. Trump spent basically nothing on opposition research so Ted was never really hit with the big stuff.

Finally Ted is just not that likable of a guy outside of conservative circles. You need broad appeal to win and Ted didn’t have it. I’d really suggest a nose job before he tries running again, looks matter on TV.

I’m not saying this to knock Ted Cruz. He’s been an excellent ally since very late in the campaign and I’m pleased with his recent performance in DC. As it stands right now I’d vote for him when he’s up reelection.

Now on the other hand if Romney had run Tump’s populist platform in 2012 I think he would have won. The Dems had kicked the working class out of their party but Romney refused to pick them up.

Yup...you nailed it!! Trump even alluded to that during the primaries, that Romney ran a lazy, quitter campaign

That is Joes problem. His Pet Rock unseated him when he was in Congress.

“I think Scarborough may be right about this”

Oh look, a Cruz supporter wants to downplay Trump’s success. Haven’t seen that before.

Trump proved that even a billionaire can be seen as a populist in the U.S. — but Romney couldn’t have played that part at all.

Interestingly, the pet rock would have given as many open press conferences as did Hillary during the last few months of the election.

The pet rock would have told, let's see, hundreds fewer of lies.

Rocky probably never pretended to run a (ahem) "charity", making millions on the con

The rockster wasn't followed by a troup of medical EMTs, just in case he had a lingering bout of "pneumonia" (ha ha, everyone knows better) and fainted

El Rocko simply did not CHEAT in any debates, and did not conspire with (chuckling) "news" people to crib questions from a carefully selected audience.

And, RockMan certainly is not a Marxist; and, one doubts that he talks down to everyone.

Hmm, the Pet Rock really would have won.

Mr. Scarborough, a Republican

They left off the giant air quotes around "Republican".

Simply not true. Donald Trump was the only Republican in the race who would have beaten her. Every other Republican would have been clobbered.

The other thing people discount was how much space he gave black men (in particular) and dyed-in-the-wool democrats in rural America to vote for him by being rejected by the GOP establishment. Only Cruz could say the same, but Cruz lacked - among other things - much appeal to those constituents. Trump was flipping the establishment off because they had already flipped him off and he didn’t care.

That’s your opinion, and that of many Trumpkins. It is not the opinion of many other political observers.

Hillary was a TERRIBLE candidate. The Democrats would have been better off running Sanders, although I think they still would have lost.

If there was anything you could do wrong, Hillary Clinton did it.

Dirty laundry? Surely you don’t believe those stupid Enquirer stories?

And Ted could well have made the argument Trump made. Many of Trump’s ideas had been Cruz ideas.

You say Ted isn’t likable. Against Hillary? Against her, pretty much anyone is likable.

Sure, like his idea of increasing H1B visas by 5000% to screw American workers. That would have gone over great.
