You can call it the Trump effect. For the first time since the economic crisis, more Americans feel positive about the economy than negative about it, a Pew Research survey found.
“What a difference a year, and possibly an election, makes,” Pew reported Monday. “Nearly six-in-ten people in the United States (58%) say the economic situation is very or somewhat good, according to a new Pew Research Center survey conducted Feb. 16-March 15. Last spring, 44% of the American public described the economy as good.”
It’s the most positive people have felt about the economy since 2007 — a year before the economic crisis — and only the second time that half or more of those surveyed have given the economy a thumbs-up, Pew reported.
Driving the higher scores are Republicans feelings about the economy — and their trust that President Donald Trump will improve lagging GDP growth, invest in infrastructure and tax reform, all of which will spur economic prosperity and improve job opportunities and wage growth.
About six in 10 Republicans and Democrats say economic conditions are very or somewhat good, and more than half of independents agree. The GOP’s good feelings about the economy has about doubled in the past year.
Pew’s results echo that of which has been found in the Consumer Confidence index.
Consumer Confidence is the highest it has been in 17 years, increasing again in March to its highest level since December 2000.

Ping for some good news.
I have a small company with twelve employees. We just closed our books for March. The result is that we scored our highest single sales month and profit month since I acquired this business in 2004. Why? Because our customers came to life after 8 years of survival mode. Winning.
Back in the job market, I am getting nibbles galore. I’ve got a niche resume and either I’m too good or not good enough, in most cases. I’m looking at a tech management role at a religious organization, which might be more charitable than a secular one. Secular organizations have long gone to plug-and-play people because loyalties are so short today.
I am not so positive about the economy. I have been out of work since fFebruary when the company I worked for folded. I have been applying like mad, but nothing is available for an experienced logistics coordinator. Tried applying in other fields too, but no wants me there either. Even tried McDonalds bto have something and was rejected.

A lot of winning is simply learning how not to lose.
They should be afraid. The stock market is not the economy.
You’ve been applying for a whole month and a half?! My God...that’s 6 weeks!.....45 days!!! Its a depression I tell ya!!
I think you are running into the same problem I am. People want exact fits when filling jobs (not too much, not too little) because loyalties are in the dumper. Don’t waste half a year training in the near-fit who might be adios in another couple of years.
This trend looks fair to reverse, but right now people are still testing the water with their toes.
Have you looked into the gig economy (i.e. where you provide services on a freelance or contract basis)?
I have done that and it is growing much faster than standard employment.
In answer to your question, I am in the printing industry in Southern California. Business is driven by consumers who are better buyers when optimism is up.

Praise for our President today on many fronts. Freedom Caucus, foreign diplomacy, Lazar focus on jobs jobs jobs, the fact he is working on what he went there to accomplish, no rambling and knocks given to the side shows, no turn to rant and rave on his Twitter account. He’s developing his Mo Jo and it’s gonna work out fine. This should bring a smile to the face of us all.
lets just not mess up the budget. Get those corporate tax cuts out there.
I spoke to my son this past weekend. He is an engineer on a Utah RR and said that their workload has gone through the roof - a far cry from eight months ago when they were talking about a 10% pay cut because of slow traffic. That's off the table now.
