Well, independence really didn’t make sense after the crowns were united, especially when it was the Scottish line ruling all of Britain and all. The entry of the Saxe Coburg-Gotha line could arguably be the European attempt to take back “Mary’s Dowry”, just as the EU’s cajoling the UK into its fold (as the EEC) was.

A great example of Euro utopia is the bridge/tunnel between Swedden and Denmark.
That thing is strategically useless because bombing the bridge-tunnel connection would result in flooding and destroying the bridge.
