The irony of that headline is that the polling at that time was in its infancy and largely, almost exclusively, done by Dr. Gallop. Some years ago, while he was still alive, he told me that the polling actually had Truman winning that race over Dewey but they simply did not believe their own data so they knowingly reported wrong values.
