Senators fear fallout of nuclear option

Senators in both parties are speculating that a blowup over President Trump’s nominee to the Supreme Court could lead not only to the end of the filibuster for such nominations, but for controversial legislation as well.

While Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that the legislative filibuster is safe, lawmakers fear that pressure will grow to get rid of it if Democrats block Neil Gorsuch’s nomination this week.

McConnell has all but promised to change the Senate’s rules to allow Gorsuch to be confirmed in a majority vote if Democrats filibuster him.

Leftard whiners at the Hill trying to prop up a failed Schumer. Let’s get real. No Senator from a Red State will have blowback from voting for Gorsuch, but they will certainly be primaried for not overriding a bunch of over inflated snowflake flatulence.

Democrat senators fear it will be used AGAINST them.

Republican Senators fear it will WORK.

Gutless, spineless, testicle-less prodigies of nature - Republican Congressmen and Senators.

With the DemocRATS gone deep into their childish sore loser mode, I can’t see any other option. If they don’t want to face the reality that the Americans threw their commie asses out, nuke ‘em.

If Republicans crap out on this, it will be suicide. Preservation of a viable independent Supreme Court is at stake as the progressive contingent will legislate from the Court and unity in the legislature will collapse. Selfish opportunism by progressive friendly GOP leadership will hamstring Trump and could even lead to GOP support for his removal. JMO

Only Democrats fear it.

The media dropped the ball on the Supreme Court by focusing too much on the Red Menace.

Fine by me.

Let them take an on-the-record vote on everything.
Let the chips fall where they may. Let the voters
react accordingly.

The Reid Rule says the “minority party can’t stop a vote on anything the majority wants.” It will be used for everything. The only question is whether the Rs or Ds are first to use it for any specific type of vote.

Being the weasel he is, Reid tried to word it so that the Ds are the first to take advantage of it for each type of vote. Being the idiots that they are, the Rs may fall for his trick and the filibuster will survived until the Ds are a majority again.

According to Ds
* The circuit court was so important that the minority must be bypassed (Reid’s explanation)
yet
* The supreme court is even more important than circuit courts so the minority must be able to stop a nominee (Schumer’s explanation)

This is replacing a conservative justice with a conservative. If they force the nuke, next time it will likely be a conservative replacing a liberal. That’s why I still expect Chuckie will cave.

When you come down to it the only people who care how Gorsuch is confirmed are the 100 Senators and a handful of political junkies.

Senators in both parties are speculating that a blowup over President Trump’s nominee to the Supreme Court could lead not only to the end of the filibuster for such nominations, but for controversial legislation as well.

Democrats have threatened a government shutdown by filibustering the budget, unless they get the spending programs they want.

I say, nuke it all. End the filibuster as an institution. The Dems started it, they can blame themselves.

Senators on both sides of the aisle will dislike ending the filibuster, because it gives each senator more power.

The first thing the republicans should do is to stop pretending that the modern version of a filibuster is really a filibuster.

The pussified filibuster rule the Senate now has does not require a real filibuster.

The senator just has to say “I declare a fillibuster.”

Then they can all an early adjournment for the day and go out for dinner and drinks.
After all - they have an because there is a make believe filibuster in effect.

McConnell could put a stop to this democrat party showboating nonsense over the Gorsuch nomination by simply leading the republican majority to change the filibuster rules back to the old way.

Require senators from both parties to actually filibuster by standing there talking until they collapse or give it up.

Once the rule is changed let democrats showboat the old way all they want, until they can’t or won’t fillibuster anymore.

When they stop the filibuster have the up or down vote where a simple majority rules.

It occurred to me that the reason the Dems are freaking about about Gorsuch is not about his qualifications (which are unquestioned) but the fact that should Trump have the opportunity to nominate another SC justice after this vacancy what will happen if he nominates a "Gorsuch clone"? On what basis would Dems object if they acquiesce to Gorsuch?

The reality is that one or two more Gorsuches would end the era of judicial tyranny, perhaps permanently. This would mean Congress would once again be responsible for making the "hard" decisions they've punted to the courts for the past 30+ years.
