When advocates of immigration controls suggest that legal immigrants and their children "assimilate" to the United States, they usually mean acquiring a working knowledge of the U. S. Constitution.
Unfortunately, it may be easier for these kids to acquire a working knowledge of gang warfare. "There are problems with assimilating to the gang culture," Paul Skerry, a political science professor from Boston College, said at a panel discussion organized by the Center for Immigration Statistics (CIS).
"Where we live now is in a great neighborhood with great businesses but we hear the gunshots every night from the gangs," Juan Rangel, the founder of the UNO Charter School Network in Chicago, said at the same forum. Rangel started the UNO network to aid Spanish-speaking children, with a curriculum that emphasized English immersion, and resulted in students getting higher test scores than their peers in public schools.
"Almost one out of four (23 percent) public school students in the United States came from an immigrant household in 2015," Steven Camarota writes in a recent report from the CIS. "As recently as 1990 it was 11 percent, and in 1980 it was just 7 percent."
"In 2015, between one-fourth and one-third of public school students from immigrant households were the children of illegal immigrants; the remainder were the children from legal immigrant households."
DACA is still operating as if it were law and not something dreamed up by Obama. It has no basis in law and is an illegal program, even if it is run by President Trump.
10,950 more illegal aliens have been given work permits and permission to stay since President Trump took office.
Perhaps we need to provide federal grants to the gangs to teach constitutional principles.
Al Capone and his associates were immigrants and/or children of immigrants. They joined gangs. It happens. It's not new.
I read the opinions of academics and I figure they are trying to persuade me to think a certain way. In this case, I figure they are trying to obfuscate any significant distinction between Legal and Illegal immigrants --
Illegal immigrants are by definition breaking the law? [shrug]
Legal immigrants join gangs and they break the law too!
So why get all wee-wee'd up about the border?
My opinion: We need to stop illegal immigration right now. I am also open to ending legal immigration. But that second idea is not a pressing concern. The first idea is very pressing.
Round up the gangs. Prison or expulsion. Worry about the courts later.
What’s new is that the cops don’t administer wooden shampoos to the gangsters any more.
Who are we kidding? Many of these Central American “children” are young men who are gang members in their drug-producing countries of origin and were allowed to invade our country by Obama.
What’s new is that what used to be a few percent of the population is on track to be a full quarter of the population. So they ‘assimilate’ with each other - into the very third-world habits and behaviors that turned their home countries into unlivable hellholes - and not with the diminishing majority of actual Americans.
Who watches over these 'guests', who is responsible for them; who is seeing to it they learn English? Once again Obama shows how irresponsible and shallow his acts are. The Obama's hated/hate America and all she stands for.
The NEA must be pleased as punch that they have enough "students" to offset the people moving to the suburb schools, the homeschoolers and the charter school kids.
How long before individuals and neighborhoods start calling for committees of vigilance to defend their neighborhoods? It does not only work one way.

A huge mistake was assuming so many Obama era rules and regulations such as the stupid DACA. The power of the pen should have struck down most of these. President Trump “owns” a good part of Obungholes legacy illegalities,unconstitutional edicts and entrenched bureaucrats. I understand it is not so simple but at the very least strangle the funding and enforcement if the damn things can’t be abolished. The wall needs to be built and the immigration problem kicked up a notch. President Trump is being shlonged by Obama/Soros/Clinton/GOPE cabal.
DACA could have and should have been ended on Day One.
Even if he did not want to rescind papers already issued they should have stopped issuing new ones and let the program unwind as the permits expired.
They are still illegal aliens.
