An explosion has hit an underground station in the city of St Petersburg, Russian media report. The Tass and Interfax agencies reported a blast at the Sennaya Ploshchad metro station, which left a number of victims.

Reuters said an emergency service source has told them there was one blast that took place between two stations.
Earlier the agency reported that blasts took place in two train carriages at two stations and Russian news agencies also reported two blasts.
The Reuters source said the explosion occurred as the train was travelling between Sennaya Ploshchad and Technology Institute stations.
Authorities gave no other immediate details on the investigation. Russian news agencies said a second explosive device was found that did not detonate.

Another unexploded device reportedly found on Metro network
A source in the emergency services has reported that only one blast occurred, instead of the two initially reported, reports Roland Oliphant.
The home made device was thought to be equivalent to 200 grams of TNT and was placed on the carriage.
Another unexploded device has been found on the St Petersburg metro system, Russian agencies report.
“A bomb that failed to go off was found at Vosstanaya Square metro station,” Interfax reported citing an anonymous source. Police have not confirmed the report.

The latest update says that there was only one explosion on a subway car between the two stations.
The (undetonated) explosive device was a bomb filled with shrapnel that was hidden in a briefcase, according to reports. (Sky News)
The supposed organiser of the blast has been caught on CCTV, says Russia’s Interfax news agency.
