She may have been sitting on the story because the person that leaked it to her got fired from Reince Priebus last week.
Maggie Haberman at the NYT is good friends with Katie Walsh. Deputy White House chief of staff Katie Walsh was recently fired by Reince Priebus for leaking information to the NYT.

When do we get to the men leaking? So far we seem to have women doing the leaking and that doesn’t seem possible.
