President Donald Trump said in his inaugural address: “We’ve defended other nation’s borders, while refusing to defend our own.”
I couldn’t agree more.
Today, the question is: Will we add yet another commitment to defend yet another foreign country?
For decades, NATO has been an organization where the U.S. disproportionately spends our blood and treasure. The other NATO countries have largely hitched a ride to the U.S. train that subsidizes their defenses and allows them to direct their revenues to domestic pursuits.
Adding a country with fewer than 2,000 soldiers to NATO is not in our self-interest. There is no national security interest that an alliance with Montenegro will advance. If we invite Montenegro into NATO, it will be a one-way street with the U.S. committing to defend yet another country.

I understand that, but what trouble could we honestly expect Montenegro to get into? However, all of big talk about doing it to hold back some phantom invasion by Russia is a bit crass, and is no wonder why they are less than thrilled by it. Even most people there wanted a public vote before going ahead.
I agree with Paul on this one...a lot of things I don’t but lately he’s been more right than wrong...

NATO is the globalist way of making us pay for our own eventual enslavement. Like making the Mexicans pay for the wall, except we’re stupid enough to fall for it even though the USSR fell apart a generation ago.

George Soros is funding the Montenegro ruling party and a large propaganda campaign to bring them into NATO. I oppose it on the general principle of whatever Soros wants then it’s probably bad for America.
If you really want to piss Putin off, invite Finland to join.
Montenegrins are Serbs!!!! It is only the corrupt dictator and his cronies who run Montenegro now who say any different! Instead of Montenegro joining NATO, we should encourage her to rejoin Serbia, and move toward ending the clinton/Soros scheme for the former Yugoslavia!!!!
In NO WAY should Georgia and/or Ukraine be encouraged to join NATO! Hillary LOST the election, so we need to move back from her evil plans for war with Russia!! EVERY nation that waged war on Russia ended up diminished or wrecked, and now Russia has a large nuclear capability, too.
Instead of following Hillary’s plan for war with Russia, we need to Make America Great Again! We need to completely knock out the Democrats’ sore-loser anti-Russia ranting, and move toward cooperation with Russia where it makes sense. That includes recognizing what our real major enemy is—islam. islam is Russia’s enemy, too!!!!
We should have said “no” to NATO expansion long before now, but this is a good place to draw the line now. It makes no sense to add countries to NATO who provide nothing of significance to the alliance’s self-defense capabilities. Rand Paul is right, the days of adding one-way defense obligations to the US load should be over.

I’m very sympathetic to them, but adding them to NATO only added to our burdens without any compensating benefits. They are militarily indefensible, so all we do is add a “nuclear tripwire” against Russia for no good reason. Should we really end up in a war with Russia over Estonia??????

Trump won’t be adding the Ukraine. The Russians made it very clear that adding the Ukraine would result in an immediate Russian invasion of the Ukraine and probably the Baltics.
