Rep. Justin Amash Hammers Trump's 'Unlawful' Immigration Ban (Freedom Caucus)

"Unlawful" and "extreme" is how West Michigan Rep. Justin Amash described President Donald Trump's executive order to ban refugees and citizens from seven Muslim-majority countries.
"It's not lawful to ban immigrants on the basis of nationality," Amash said in the statement.
Trump's order blocks citizens from Iran, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Sudan, Somalia and Libya from entering the country for at least 90 days. It also bans refugees from anywhere in the world for 120 days -- and from Syria indefinitely.
"Ultimately, the executive order appears to be more about politics than safety," Amash said. "If the concern is radicalism and terrorism, then what about Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and others?"
Unlike many Republicans who endorsed Trump when he secured the GOP nomination, Amash never formally gave the candidate his support. He said he would neither vote for Trump nor Hillary Clinton, and would remain critical of Trump's decisions in office.

You know what made me a Trump supporter? You. And everyone else that shared your hope and mine.

Ummm .... the travel ban is in the article, and what Amash, who appears to be a member of the HFC, is whining about. Of course it’s legal, AND constitutional.
You hate Trump, your problem, but if you lie, and I see it, I will point it out.

Gonna be picking and choosing rare articles to bash real conservatives? :)
Yes he is not a
real conservative. He is just antiTrump. You could argue he is sensitive to immigration from countries like Syria and Trump's support for Israel.
Born in Grand Rapids, and raised in Kentwood, Michigan, Amash is a second-generation Arab-American of Palestinian Christian and Syrian Greek Orthodox descent.[13] His father, Attallah, is a Palestinian business owner, whose family emigrated to the United States in 1956[14] through the sponsorship of a Christian pastor and his family. His mother, Mimi, is a Syrian immigrant to the United States.[15][16]
Amash supports decreasing U.S. military spending, and believes there is significant waste in the military spending of the U.S. Department of Defense.[43] He believes only Congress has the power to declare war, criticizing President Obama's military intervention against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, and intervention in Syria, for proceeding without a Congressional declaration of war.[44][45] In 2011, Amash was one of six members of Congress who voted "Nay" on House Resolution 268 reaffirming U.S. commitment to a negotiated settlement of the IsraeliPalestinian conflict through direct IsraeliPalestinian negotiation, which passed with 407 members in support.[14][46] In 2014, he was one of eight members of Congress who voted "Nay" on a $225 million package to restock Israel's Iron Dome missile defenses, which passed with 398 members in support.[47] He supports a two-state solution to the PalestinianIsraeli conflict.[14] Amash joined 104 Democrats and 16 Republicans in voting against the 2012 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which specified the budget and expenditures of the Department of Defense,[48] calling it "one of the most anti-liberty pieces of legislation of our lifetime".[49] Amash co-sponsored an amendment to the NDAA that would ban indefinite military detention and military trials so that all terror suspects arrested in the United States would be tried in civilian courts. He expressed concern that individuals charged with terrorism could be jailed for prolonged periods of time without ever being formally charged or brought to trial.[50] On March 14, 2016, Amash joined a unanimous majority in the House to approve a resolution declaring the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) to be committing genocide against religious minorities in the Middle East (passed 3830), but joined Representatives Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) and Thomas Massie (R-KY) in voting "Nay" on a separate measure creating an international tribunal to try those accused of participating in the alleged atrocities (passed 3923).[51]

Thanks, I think? We are all in this together. I do love the many times he has played rope a dope with the press and the left. I’m sure he makes some mistakes, and he has his little ego moments, but no one with a lesser ego could even try to take them on as much as he has.
I pray for his clarity. This is all overwhelming for ME and I don’t know 1/8 of what he must know.

I don't think the FC=conservatives so that's an unfair statement.. Also Trump's tweet: "The Freedom Caucus will hurt the entire Republican agenda
if they don't get on the team, & fast. We must fight them, & Dems, in 2018!" is not a promise to fight them. It is putting them on notice that they weren't team players and to get anything done he is going to need to fight an uphill battle with them as well as the Dems unless they come to the table and seriously work at getting a healthcare solution passed.
Still doing my due diligence on looking up their positions but thus far there's good & bad. Amash is an idiot. Others have worked to good effect. They don't even release the names of all of their members.
My reading so far suggests that the FC asked for concessions like an end to essential healthcare benefits and when they got those concessions pulled back the votes they had promised. There is an extensive discussion on the internals at

Amash is more a small “L” libertarian than he is a Republican. And he’s getting a rep. as a bit of a bomb thrower.

I don’t know what you are talking about.
The title of this thread, and the article posted below it, are about Justin Amash and his attacks on President Trump’s proposed immigration ban from seven mostly muslim countries whose citizens cannot be vetted.

Yeah, that sucks. Looks like you were paying for a family under COBRA, but an individual on the Exchange. Explanation?

Look at what he wrote:
“The Freedom Caucus will hurt the entire Republican agenda if they don’t get on the team, & fast.”
Period.
“We must fight them, & Dems, in 2018!”
Exclamation point.
Two distinct sentences which stand independent of each other.
He DID NOT write:
The Freedom Caucus will hurt the entire Republican agenda.
If they don’t get on the team, & fast, we must fight them, and Dems, in 2018.
You see the yuuuuge difference?
He could have chosen to write the 2nd, conditional version. But he chose not to. Instead he declared war. Now you want to foster a deceit and rewrite it for him.
Either the man stands by his word or he doesn’t. Which is it?

I wasn’t a day-one Trump supporter. But eventually became a Trump supporter supporter. And at some point became an unambiguous Trump supporter.
I too pray for clarity. I hope his ego prevails.

If you’d been following this poster’s ramblings all day, like I have, you would know what’s going on here.
It’s about health care. Not travel ban. He’s just using an old Amash travel ban story to make another dishonest attack on the HFC:
Amash in NeverTrump.
Amash is on HFC.
Therefore HFC is Nevertrump.

So, you post an over two month old article as NEWS on Justin Amash (the one fraudulent “member” of the Freedom Caucus as far as I’m concerned) in order to bash the Freedom Caucus. Keep up your anti-conservative jihad — it’s very telling about you.
By the way, will you be bashing us as “nativists” if we oppose any Trump moves to support AMNESTY as he has begun to show signs of wanting?

Smells like "second generation Arab American." No American is "second generation" anything, but just plain American. Who doesn't know crap about the law. Or else lies about it.
