"Unlawful" and "extreme" is how West Michigan Rep. Justin Amash described President Donald Trump's executive order to ban refugees and citizens from seven Muslim-majority countries.
"It's not lawful to ban immigrants on the basis of nationality," Amash said in the statement.
Trump's order blocks citizens from Iran, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Sudan, Somalia and Libya from entering the country for at least 90 days. It also bans refugees from anywhere in the world for 120 days -- and from Syria indefinitely.
"Ultimately, the executive order appears to be more about politics than safety," Amash said. "If the concern is radicalism and terrorism, then what about Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and others?"
Unlike many Republicans who endorsed Trump when he secured the GOP nomination, Amash never formally gave the candidate his support. He said he would neither vote for Trump nor Hillary Clinton, and would remain critical of Trump's decisions in office.

Borrowing from somebody: The HFC are "controlled opposition"
Sorry I can't remember, it was a thread article.
Justin is an idiot.
It has been doing just that since 1960 or so though with patent life, not enforcing pricing transparency, not allowing reimportation, not enforcing the anti trust act, Medicare and Medicaid. Repealing Obamacare is barely a dent in getting gov out of healthcare
Sorry - you already spent the money on SS. And if you only include your portion, it doesn’t remotely come close to covering the program either. And Medicare has never taken in remotely close to the cost.
Maybe not but one by one they are being outed as fake conservatives.
>>A ask sucks mudslme ash.<<
a bit Byzantine for some of us.
Shirley u jest.
We’re there already. Constitutionalists to the right, cultist worshippers of government & globalist pawns to the left....
What damned line? This is Free Republic.
Actually, he cannot do any of the things you suggest. Obamaromney care makes them illegal or impossible. This isn’t about what any individual chooses to do about their own health care and it never was. It has always been about forcing us to pay for someone else’s.
You are correct Sir!
Justin Amash is one of the “leaders” in the so called “Freedom Caucus”.
In realty he is a worthless liberal puke that finds any reason he can to vote NO on everything in less it is something liberals want!
Of course congress has passed so many laws that no one can actually state with certainty how many laws there really are.
And can anyone possibly be confident that they know every law that applies to every issue?
http://www.kowal.com/?q=How-Many-Federal-Laws-Are-There%3FHow Many Federal Laws Are There? No One Knows.
No one knows how many laws there are in the United States. Apparently, no one can count that high.
Theyve been accumulating, of course, for more than 200 years. When federal laws were first codified in 1927, they fit into a single volume. By the 1980s, there were 50 volumes of more than 23,000 pages.
And today? Online sources say that no one knows. The Internal Revenue Code alone, first codified in 1874, contains more than 3.4 million words and, if printed 60 lines to the page, is more than 7,500 pages long. There are about 20,000 laws just governing the use and ownership of guns.
New laws mean new crimes. From the start of 2000 through 2007, Congress had created at least 452 new crimes, so that at that time the total number of Federal crimes exceeded 4,450.
Of course, times change and laws need to be updated. But many laws detract from, rather than contribute to, our quality of life and overall well-being. It is impossible for anyone to know all of the laws that affect them and it is, therefore, impossible to not break any laws. How many of the 4,450 crimes have you broken?
The role of Congress, unfortunately, is to create new laws, not to do away with old laws that dont work. Members of Congress running for re-election want to be able to say that they sponsored and passed new laws regardless of how harmful the laws may be.
In a typical year, Congress passes at least 125 new laws, but Congress has fortunately slowed the pace of late. In 2011, after Republicans took control of the U.S. House of Representatives, Congress passed just 90 bills into law. As of last August, only 61 of the 3,914 bills that had been introduced in 2012 as of that date had been passed into law.
USA Today criticized the do nothing Congress for not passing enough new laws, as though Congress should be graded based on the number of laws it passes. I say its a step in the right direction.
See what the rats left us? They’re so happy to see the infighting going on and we are feeding into it.
Amash is A Lebanese American is my reckon by his name
Likely Christian
Really ? Who's another one ? Provide link please
Amash is your definition of a real conservative? Please, explain then why Trump cant ban people from heavily terrorist nations like the real conservative Amash insists, when the law explicitly says the president can ban whomever he deems a threat? Amash is a globalist demagogue and a liar.
Whine about Helicondelta or anyone who defends the president all you want (and then like a hypocrite treat every Freedom Caucus member like an untouchable god), but everyone needs to know what a snake in the grass Amash is. Thank you Helicondelta for posting this.
Freedom Caucus: “We NEVER do anything for you - only too you”
So pointing out the short comings of the FC = supporting Obamacare.
MANY FC supporters here in FR are drowning in fallacies. Doesn’t look healthy or wise to me at all.
Trump is much better and done much more for us than Bush. Attacking him when hes already being attacked non-stop in an unprecedented manner from all sides can only help the Democrats and make it more likely that much of Obamas legacy remains in place. Im not saying dont disagree with him, but there have been a lot of aggressive (and in some instances clearly unfair) attacks made on him here and on other conservatives sites. I wish people would stop and think where were going to be if Trump goes down. This country is only hanging on by a thread as it is.
