The next in line after McCarthy from the GOP Establishment were Steve Scalise and Cathy McMorris Rodgers.

It was a nice honeymoon while it lasted.

Easy. He “put his faith” in Ryan because when the House Republicans held an election for Speaker, NONE of the “principled conservatives” in the HFC ran against him, and NONE voted for him.

Ryan is the de facto leader because no one else will take him on. And today, the HFC said he SHOULDN’T step down as Speaker.

Who else SHOULD Trump side with? The HFC, which is 25 guys? (10% of the House R total???)

Thomas Massie voted against Ryan.

The problem with this line of thinking is . . . why did they only have two weeks? They have had eight years to work with Ryan and to shape a bill. Did they really think a “plain” repeal was gonna fly after so many were hooked on some government goodies?

No, you keep letting the HFC off way too easy. They all voted for Ryan. They didn’t run a single candidate against Ryan last time. Today they all said Ryan should still be Speaker.

Now, you can make excuses for them all day long, but it seems to me they want to be “principled” yet never actually have to fight Ryan.

Be careful,Jim. A lot of people on here are in hero worship mode and Trump is their hero. I’ve been “corrected” for stating the very same things you are. Unbelievable to me.

They [the Freedom Caucus] have had eight years to work with Ryan and to shape a bill.

It takes 2. If Ryan refused to work with them, that was it.

So one? One of 26? But Massie likely did endorse him today, because the rules of the HFC are that they have to have 80% unanimity to vote or endorse.

“Ryancare will let him ease into tax cuts. Then, Phase 2 and 3 let’s the Ryancare go away.”

This is the most tasty pretzel logic I have seen.

More than 80% voted for Ryan, and Massie still voted no.

Then you expand your caucus til he has to. Chris Stewart, a good conservative from UT, isn’t in it because of the requirement that 80% must agree before they can vote on something.

It’s a position of strength at times, not at other times. They need to understand their LIMITED power—10% of the House membership needs to look for ways to work with Ryan and shape stuff, not come in at the last minute and throw monkey wrenches. But if you want to continually let them off, be my guest.

They voted for him after Trump propped him up. Recall that Ryan was just about out the door as Speaker, then Trump backed him. Why I don’t know, guess he likes the guy, which is troubling.

Oh, and listening to Trey Gowdy talk about how competent he is as Speaker turned my damn stomach. I’ve been fooled by him, too.

Good for him. Point is, HFC has had no impact at all on stopping Ryan, and didn’t run another candidate to oppose-—despite the fact that many of us pushed Jim Jordan to run.

Trump doesn’t like him. Ryan was behind the access Hollywood tape. I would hazarded to guess that before the mid terms someone likes Nunes will be speaker, not Ryan.

Maybe that's because Ryan said that he was for a full repeal.

And say what you will, Trump propped him up when he was all but out the door.

You’ve said it enough, we get it. You’re against the Freedom Caucus.

If that’s the case then HFC is stupid.

It is the case. Ryan promised to "repeal every word".

What I find really stupid are people singling out the Freedom Caucus, the ones who promised that they would support a full repeal and the ones who still support a full repeal.

Meanwhile liars and the flip-floppers skate.

That's real smart.
