"The Freedom Caucus will hurt the entire Republican agenda if they don't get on the team, & fast. We must fight them, & Dems, in 2018!" - Donald Trump
No, not at all.
It was Trump's support of the establishment RINO, Ryan and his RINOcare, non repeal plan, and his criticism of the Freedom Caucus, that has RINOs and establishment types everywhere flying their RINO flags.
We are in complete agreement!
Will somebody please explain the 3-D chess going on here?
You sound like a #NeverTrumper. Trump is not a conservative. Ted Cruz couldn't support him at the convention. The National Review devoted an entire issue during the campaign advocating his defeat. Bill Kristol of the Weekly Standard voted for Hillary. Conservative Evan McMuffin ran to take votes away from Trump in states like Utah.
Despite the many attacks on him, Trump won with Reps, Independents, and some blue collar Dems. It was a coalition that enabled him to take states like MI, WI, and PA. Trump has assembled a very conservative cabinet with Jeff Sessions as AG being the most important appointment; he has nominated a conservative judge for SCOTUS; he is rebuilding the military; he is deep-sixing Obama's executive orders on climate change, immigration, etc.
In the grand scheme of things, the GOP must come together as a unified party. If it can't, then it can't govern and will squander the current majority it now has. Defeating Trump will impact the 2018 midterms. Can the GOP hold the senate? Will the perfect be the enemy of the good?
Agree. I look at all the things this man does in one day. He has done more in his short time in office then most other President’s do in a year. The House had a chance to make a better Bill, and; I believe that any businessman shown a better business plan/administrative policy would choose the better plan.
Then maybe there needs to be another March on Washington to get the President on board.
Haha. With who? Ted? Ted would lose with Dukakis type numbers. Wake up and stop being so dramatic. It’s Day 70.
The Freedom Caucus is stuck on repeal. The problem is Obamacare has been tweaked numerous times over 7 years. The process requires multiple steps to repair. Obviously, there are numerous representatives from the FC who are holding this bill hostage.
My rep actually walked out of the meeting with President Trump. He wasn’t even interested in what he had to say. He then gets on Facebook and claims victory for his constituants. Victory for what? Obamacare forever?
The FC needs to understand for them to be successful they will have to compromise on some issues.
The GOP let Trump down. The HFC voted overwhelmingly twice (with a few exceptions) to make Ryan the Speaker.
So Trump is incapable of reading? Who knew.
It’s not a question of whether there was anything to like in this bill. But even with this bill they estimated that there would be 20% increases in health insurance premiums over the next two years. My representative probably would have lost his seat if that number was 0% and might have been able to keep it if that number was -5%. That’s why nobody wanted to pass this bill. It would have been a political disaster on that basis alone.
Trump let We the People down when he got behind Ryan’s “0bamacare Lite” bill.
Sorry, we live in a Republic and Trump is NOT Congress' boss. They are equal branches of Government.
The only boss the HFC has is their constituents. The difference between HFC and RINOS is that they do what their bosses tell them to do.
Dramatic is the right word to describe what Trump just did.
There is going to be a dramatic loss of support for him among conservatives. Dramatic. Loss. Of. Support.
You can claim he will make up for it by bringing other constituencies on board and so he will retain a shot at re-election.
That remains to be seen.
But there is no doubt that he just suffered a dramatic loss of support among conservatives.
Ask Mitt Romney how that works out for you.
Thank you for pointing this out.
I get the feeling some here have the mistaken notion that the presidency is like being CEO of a company and that all branches of government are subservient to the presidents agenda and that is simply not the case.
The president is constitutionally tasked with enforcing the laws that congress passes not mandating which laws get passed.
Ideally the legislative and executive branches are like-minded and have the same goals but that isn’t always the case.
My source is no less than the top of Team Trump. Inner circle.
Team Trump was negotiating in good faith. I am told that twice Team Trump gave concessions only to have the HFC move the goalpost. These concessions were on the illegals and one other pretty significant item.
I did NOT hear anything about “preexisting conditions.” I think this was way, way beyond a reconciliation bill.
“Ryan needs to move toward FC, not the other way around”
A major problem is that many voters won’t accept a plan that will take away coverage.
The only means of getting a less costly plan to be accepted is to wait for an Obamacare financial crisis that is so scary that voters will accept a more austere plan.
Another strategy would be to reduce costs but not coverage but that will be a huge battle with the medical industry.
