At Skidmore College, where there are no immediately identifiable conservatives, faculty members have started to intimidate liberals with stray thoughts.
Robert Boyers, an English professor at Skidmore, recounted a couple of recent episodes in The Chronicle Review on March 24, 2017:
"At my own college, when a senior colleague at a public meeting last fall uttered an expression ('in their native habitat') felt by some to be 'offensive'--though clearly not intended to be so, and followed by a clear apology when a complaint was voiced--there were calls for her to resign from the faculty. And though she is, and will remain, with us, the incident prompted a volley of abusive and self-righteous rhetoric, drove more than one faculty member to advise students away from courses taught by 'that woman' and stirred a renewed emphasis on 're-education' and 'rehabilitation.'"
"A distinguished scholar at my own college writes in an open email letter to the faculty that when colleagues who are 'different' (in his case, nonwhite, nonstraight, nonmale) speak to us we are compelled not merely to listen but to 'validate their experiences.' When we meet at a faculty reception a week or so later and he asks what I think of his letter, I tell him I admire his willingness to share his thoughts but have been puzzling over the word 'compelled' and the expression 'validate their experiences.' Does he mean thereby to suggest that if we have doubts or misgivings about what a colleague has said to us, we should keep our mouths shut? Exactly, replies my earnest, right-minded colleague."
It is great fun to watch them eat their own.
I've experienced this in the workplace among some colleagues who are different.
I believe these colleagues of mine say these things for the express purpose of testing to see who "gets it" and who does not. I think I've been singled out because I fit the profile of someone guilty of thoughtcrime.
Thought and speech such as that is adequate proof that the perps are far, far from being intellectuals.
Hopefully, one does not hear such crap from true professors who have undergone rigorous training in their profession.
Sadly, we all know that this means STEM (with the exception of the climate “science” clown contingent).
Employers across the country should declare a moratorium on hiring graduates of the rabid, liberal, colleges.
Demanding that others approve of and even flatter you indicates extreme insecurity. But this is what liberals want most of the time. Don’t expect them to approve of you, however, unless you’re enough like them.
This is the typical college environment our kids are marinating in. It’s repulsive.
The pattern here is shutting down anyone with opposing ideas or say something to which others take offense...the pattern is against education and for collectivists i.e. " Collectivists focus on communal, societal, or national interests in various types of political, economic and educational systems."...as opposed to individualism,
Right and when musscums have no one else to kill they kill each other!-)
Going to take a guess there’s no Debate Team at this place. Because God forbid there be intellectually honest differences of opinion.
