Repeal of Affordable Care Act Is Back on Agenda, Republicans Say
NY Times ^ | March 28, 2017 | ROBERT PEAR and JEREMY W. PETERS

Under extreme pressure from conservative activists, House Republican leaders and the White House have restarted negotiations on legislation to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

But efforts to revive the legislation in the House could take weeks, lawmakers conceded, as Congress moves forward with a full plate of other time-consuming issues. And the renewed push did not meet with much enthusiasm from Senate Republicans, who said they had other priorities at the moment.

Nonetheless, Speaker Paul D. Ryan vowed to renew efforts to repeal the law, despite last’s week crushing setback when House Republicans tossed aside a repeal bill because they lacked the votes to pass it.

Repeal and replace.

That has been what Trump has said since day one.

Repeal, and replace.>>> and he’s not a quitter.

Actually I am home at the moment.

That said, I have health insurance in America. Yes I understand it is VERY EXPENSIVE.

I get that. I am in favor of (drastically) reducing the financial mess, by any number of ways. But everyone needs healthcare.

That is what I am saying. Everyone should have medical coverage. Every single American.

Everyone.

Replace with freedom of choice, free markets, and a LOT less government involvement.>>> i Agree but the system is heavily regulated. Medicare/aid dictates rates. and allows company benefit insurance to the detriment of self insurance. hence the problems. the states and medicare screwed the free market. how do you unwind that. just sayin.

“We’ve tried “just free market” and it gave us the single most expensive medical care on the entire planet”
***********
There has NOT been a free market since government involvement began with everything from encouraging the coupling of insurance coverage with a job (FDR) to government regulations of the drug industry, insurance industry, medical devices, ad infinitum.

We got Obamacare in the first place BECAUSE of government interference in the free market. It screws everything up and government bureaucrats always think that they can “fix” what govt broke with MORE govt.

Look at every other commodity (and healthcare is a commodity, not a right). Whether it’s a phone, a TV or a car, the quality of, access to and cost of those things is inversely proportional to the degree of government involvement.

Here is an abbreviated review (9 minutes) by Milton Friedman of a few ways medical care has been negatively impacted by government involvement:

Here is his full discussion of the issues at the Mayo Clinic:

I think this was in the 80s and things have gotten exponentially worse as government involvement has increased.

OMG repeal could take WEEKS. It took 8 years to really f%$K up this country. I can’t believe Trump can’t fix it in three months, what incompetence.

Get on the bandwagon, impeach Trump now before he succeeds even more.>> forgot the /s

Unfortunately, letting it die naturally may be the only way to get the public to realize what an abject failure it truly is. Any fix, no matter how inconsequential, that is implemented by Trump and Republicans will be spun by the MSM so that Obamacare’s failure is their fault.>>> public already knows. DC doesn’t. they sit in ivory towers.

Good. I have no problem with states like MA or CA creating their own mini-Obamacares. Let the states take care of the poor or whatever. I just don’t want it federalized.>>> it is federalized as a tax benefit to companies and not individuals. lose job lose insurance, and i was in chemo, etc. That needs to be handled. and FDIC type private risk pool would help. fed tax free hsa. etc. in a real world the fed would not be able to take my wages. and the fed would not be allowed to print fiat script. this is a hard row to hoe.

American healthcare costs are higher because of government interference with the market along with the prevalence of insurance which destroys the free market forces which would naturally keep prices down.

Oh, thank God there is at least ONE other person on the planet who understnads this!

One of my great pet peeves is the constant conflating of "health care" and "health INSURANCE". They are not the same thing, but many deliberately treat them as if they are.

You aren’t kidding. So many hits against the Freedom Caucus and in favor of tweaking Obamacare have shown up. It looks like Jim is losing control of the board to the paid Democrats.

We’ve tried “just free market” and it gave us the single most expensive medical care on the entire planet, in which millions and millions cannot even get coverage because of set of circumstance such as the loss of a job, or a pre-existing condition.

This is observably false: before WWII, when job-supplied insurance became an incentive [because of wage-caps/-controls], you could go to the doctor for essentially any non-catastrophic issue and pay with money on hand.

What's really advanced the medical costs is removing the consumer from the direct cost -- because it's not 'their money' the customer is unlikely to say No, this is outrageous. when the costs increase.

Trump risked it all to Save America from Hillary Clinton and full socialism

Hillary would be now moving to take away our freedom and property. So you have freedom and property because Trump is making the greatest sacrifice taking the massive slander, bashing and pounding from the media daily

Trump is reducing regulations on businesses and businesses in healthcare etc. For example Trump put a pro-freedom Republican to head the FCC which is keeping the internet uncensored. Obama had Democrat thugs heading the FCC which were about to start censoring the Internet .that's just one example of many such moves by Trump in government agencies.

Trump has also done a lot of executive orders meant to further reduced government regulations including on healthcare, and to stop illegals and illegals’ crossings are way down.

Yet many on here are saying there is basically no difference if Hillary had won which is very unfair . Trump is making a huge sacrifice taking the daily media slander and unfair bashing of him. He had a great life before this. Why is putting up with this. It's his putting up with all that grief that is why we are still free. yet many bash bash unfairly here too .

The presidency is a weak office. He's doing all he can to reduce government influence (reducing regulations on the energy industry, healthcare , internet, manufacturing etc. _). That has to be commended as no politician has ever even tried to do this but the opposite . politicians have increased government influence and sold out America. Now we have Trump who is trying to save America and put America first and making a great sacrifice to do it and all he gets is bashing.

If I had 10 billion dollars I'd be on a island relaxing not putting up with daily bashing by the media and working so hard to make America Great Again.

Trump is an old man. He worked hard all his life 18 hours every day. Now he is still working 18 hours every day to save America and Americans. he should be retired resting relaxing .I would be resting not working a single day for any one if I were 70.It's unconscionable so many bash this great man and his heroic sacrifice.
