Amid Democratic opposition, Republican leaders are retreating from President Donald Trumps very popular campaign promise to build a border fence to block illegal immigration, drug smugglers, and criminals.
A top GOP leader, Sen. Roy Blunt, told reporters on Tuesday that GOP leaders do not want to include Trumps spending for the border wall in the spring budget, which is due by April 28. All of the committees, the leaderships of the House and Senate, are working together to try to finalize the rest of the FY17 [budget spending] bill, he added. My guess is that comes together better without the [border] supplemental, he told The Hill.
Top Democrats are hoping to wreck Trumps presidency by blocking any funding for his key campaign promise. The wall is a poison-pill rider, Schumer said in an interview with Politico. Theyll do it at their peril.

Ya can’t trust republicans or democrats.
We have to to get Flake and Corker out at a bare minimum.

I was trying to mimic the arguments for RINOcare.
They really have no idea what their voters want, because this is the most self-destructive thing they could possibly do on the heels of failing on delivering meaningful Obamacare repeal.

You got me thinking, JayGalt.
Our Commander in Chief needs no legislation to shore up miliary defenses. It’s all in the wording.
As an act of military defense, he could secure any permiter he wishes, particularly along national borders. Simply declare a state of emergency. And then he could even invite civilian assisatance.
Spot on observation
Not braindead, conniving, the braindead are the people who keep voting for the Cheap Labor Express Republicans.
The only immigration the Senate Republicans have any interest in passing is another amnesty.
Vero Beach?
You forget the /s
I have seen what they are up to since 2006. Why do you think they nominated the author of the TWO previous amnesty attempts in 2008 and the liar Romney in 2012.
In every election since the last amnesty they have only nominated amnesty candidates.
The two who won, GHWB and GWB, were worse on enforcement than Bill Clinton.
It is enough for any Trump supporter because thatCr@p sandwich was worse than ObamaCare and Ryan should be laughed out of the Speakership for proposing it. The fact that Trump bought into it and blames the sane members of congress for killing it speaks volumes and worries the cr@p out of me.
I want Trump to succeed beyond our wildest dreams but that won't happen if this RyanCare bill passed. Rush quoted an acquaintance that had a family of four whose insurance was $1,995.00 a month are people so ill informed as to think that is affordable? That is about what a payment for a half million dollar home would run. Pure madness.
Did a good job too. [:<)
I think President Trump and the people he has chosen know how to get creative. The deep state won’t know what hit them.
“It is enough for any Trump supporter because thatCr@p sandwich was worse than ObamaCare and Ryan should be laughed out of the Speakership for proposing it.”
Ryan merely submitted what the lobbyists wrote for him to submit. There was NOTHING in it for us. Nothing. Ryan has to go.
Weren’t you excoriating us for electing Dave Brat to replace Cantor because you wanted Ryancare?
If we had not Cantorized that weasel they would have passed Rubio’s amnesty as planned to clear that issue off the table for Yeb! and there would be no President Trump.
And no USA, either.
That may be what they are angling for, but any amnesty is unacceptable.
May as well not even bother with the wall.
