The House Intelligence Committee has scrapped the rest of its meetings this week as calls intensify for Chairman Devin Nunes to step down following his admission that he met with a secret source at the White House to review intelligence reports.
The decision to cancel the meetings was confirmed on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" by Rep. Jim Himes — among the Democrats on the committee demanding that Rep. Nunes recuse himself from the inquiry into alleged Russian meddling in last year's election.
Himes said an intelligence committee meeting Monday was canceled, as well as an open hearing set for Wednesday and an unrelated meeting Thursday.
"Not only has this investigation sort of had a shadow cast on it, but the committee's been put into suspended animation," Himes said.
Nunes told reporters Tuesday "the investigation continues," but declined to say whether he planned to recuse himself.
On Monday, Nunes' spokesman confirmed that the chairman met with a source at the White House grounds to look at reports purportedly showing President Donald Trump or his aides were "incidentally" swept up in foreign surveillance by American spy agencies.
Nunes, a California Republican who was a member of the Trump transition team, initially told reporters last week that he had seen such reports, but didn't elaborate on the source.
He's now under criticism for failing to tell the top Democrat on the intelligence committee about his White House visit. It's also unclear why Nunes would go to the White House to seek a secure location to view classified material when members of the committee said there are secure rooms at the Capitol.
White House spokesman Sean Spicer refused to comment Monday when asked why Nunes was on White House grounds.

Can someone who understands how this process works explain why it takes so long? I don’t understand why if there is proof that nefarious activities occurred why the hand can’t be played.
I am all for the 3-D chess game but someone needs to explain it to me in terms simple enough for a surgeon to understand...Ha. I mean we identify disease and remove it. Whats the holdup...or the advantage to the hold up?
It is simply astonishing to watch the Trump Administration stand mute for 2 weeks on this whole fiasco. It’s just like the Benghazi hearings where the Republicans ultimately were bullied and backed down. Close the investigation and move on. What a mess.
Nunes should expand the committee’s tasks to looking into the Awan brothers since it looks like they were into wiretapping and espionage around the time of the election as well.
That will make the Democrats head’s explode.
Nubes has the goods all the way up to Obama.

Trump is good at getting the media to follow him.. have a program (Fox would air it) of supporters who wish to spout about the good and the bad that is trying to stop the progress. Have a panel of people NOT in the government who support what Trump wants to do. Have a fun episode that would be picked up on the news. Do things that the media would cover and get the subject OFF the lies.. change the subject!! Get it out of Washington... out of the dems’ reach.. out of their control.. and change the subject!!
