Senior Minister Meg Barnhouse knows shell need beds, a dresser, chairs and a mirror to make the classroom at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Austin feel more like a home for a mother and her young daughter who are still deciding whether they will become the latest immigrants seeking sanctuary from deportation by moving into a church.
It would be the second time Barnhouses congregation had offered sanctuary. She was hesitant in 2015 because of the unknown legal and insurance risks, but this time she agreed immediately.
There is growing fear in the citys immigrant community as President Donald Trumps immigration and executive orders go into effect. And as more than 50 Austin area residents were detained in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement deportation raids last month, a growing number of churches in the Austin Sanctuary Network are volunteering to offer physical shelter or support to churches that do. [ ]
Many of the pastors say they are teaching civil disobedience when necessary, but because the immigrants are openly declaring sanctuary and letting immigration officials know where they are, they dont believe they are violating the law. U.S. Department of Homeland Security officials declined to discuss the legality of sanctuary, but pointed to the sensitive areas policy.

Aiding and abetting criminals and “Democrat” voters. Time to start throwing people in jail.
So are they hanging around the church all day eating burritos or do they ever go outside?
Unitarian church network
First of all, the Unitarians are not even a church.
Austin area “residents”, it says.
To take sanctuary in a church,,,, wouldn’t that be a violation of church and state that the liberals are always complaining about.
Arrest the preacher.
Harboring illegal aliens is a federal offense. They should be charged criminally.
Lock some people up and there will be a lot fewer volunteers.
UU has become a church for atheists.
..... Well .... First of all ... Immigrants don’t have to hide, they just go on with their lives in America. These people, on the other hand, are not Immigrants, these are Illegal Trespassers who have broken Federal Law just by being in this country in the first case.
Mostly NOT a church, but it's above my pay grade to judge their walk with God.
It’s easy to see if they’re walking contrary to God.

Wow, Associated Press, thanks for letting us know.
- Dept. of Homeland Security
If even one rapes or kills, the civil suits could bury the so-called church.
UU is hardly a church. More like a Starbucks coffee house except with sanctimonious social justice warriors rather than worshipers on the One True God. Oh wait, it is *exactly* like Starbucks! except the coffee is free.
Four paragraphs and the author is still pretending that Trump is going after regular immigrants instead of ILLEGAL ALIENS.
Not above mine. They don't have one.
Have ICE surround Austin’s east side and start the deportations. That’ll solve the traffic problem, lower taxes and bring housing costs back to where they should be.
They’ll get Saranac Laked into reality.
