Dr. Rand Paul Comments on the U.S. House Rejecting ‘Obamacare Lite’
Senator Rand Paul ^ | 24 March 2017 | Rand Paul

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator and physician Rand Paul released the following statement after U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan pulled the American Health Care Act from a floor vote for the second day in a row:

“I applaud House conservatives for keeping their word to the American people and standing up against Obamacare Lite,” said Dr. Paul. “I look forward to passing full repeal of Obamacare in the very near future.”

Earlier this month, Dr. Paul introduced the Obamacare Repeal Act (S. 554), which is the same legislation, with an updated timeline, to repeal major components of Obamacare that an overwhelming Republican majority sent to President Obama’s desk in January 2016.

You can read more about Dr. Paul’s Obamacare Repeal Act HERE.

In January, Dr. Paul introduced the free-market based Obamacare Replacement Act (S. 222), which empowers Americans to: 1.) Choose inexpensive insurance free of government dictates; 2.) Save unlimited amounts in a health savings account (HSA) and have wider options for using those funds; 3.) Buy insurance across state lines; and 4.) Join together in voluntary associations to gain the leverage of being part of a large insurance pool.

You can find a one-page summary of Dr. Paul’s Obamacare Replacement Act, which the House Freedom Caucus endorsed in February, HERE.

I’m still trying to figure out how Hillary Clinton got listed as a Republican who keeps “democratic” policies in force.

The kind of diseased mind that is a personality cultist. One that makes the non passage of Obamacare lite about the person (President Trump) and not the nation.

Simply put a populist socialist

Oooo yes the ever present liberal purist talking point. If by “purist” you mean constitutional conservative then yes that would be me.

If you have any grievances with us “purists” I suggest you take it up with the site’s owner. I’m quite certain he’d entertain you viewpoints on so called “purists”

The problem with buying insurance across state lines is the states themselves. Any insurance company dealing with the citizens of a state has to abide with the insurance regulations of that state. By the time these insurance companies comply with the state’s insurance regulations, they just about operate just like the other insurance companies working in that state. There is very little difference and, after the cost of the regulations is passed on to the rate payers, there is little that can be done to lower costs in my humble opinion.

THIS is where a true utilization of the ‘Commerce Clause’ would come into effect. No different here.

Mandate catastrophic, male/female/family a/o a la carte, then let loose. See which is viable that the State wishes to tack on.

These guys have been relentlessly campaigning against Obamacare since it came into force. The House Republicans have been showboating for so long that nobody remembers how to function. Whatever people think of Donald Trump, I don’t think there is a soul around who believes that he is going to just meekly slink back to the White House due to a “no” vote from the House.
>

There’s your error right there: Presuming they were AGAINST.

Showboating and feigning ‘opposition’, I will agree. They’ve done NOTHING for the People to shrink/reduce govt *ANY* time since I could vote (fine, Clinton’s ‘dip’...another ‘phase 1, 2, 3’ project that never came to fruition).

It’s easy to just blame the GOP, but where are the eight Democrat votes that would be required to get Paul’s plan passed even if every last Republican Senator supported it?

Nuclear option. Reid opened the door, use it.

“By the time these insurance companies comply with the state’s insurance regulations, they just about operate just like the other insurance companies working in that state.”

That’s true, but increasing competition at least helps to reduce the cost to consumers.

Yes, “feigning opposition” is the correct description.

free-market based Obamacare Replacement Act

Perhaps Trump will begin to study this option.

Rand's bill would require 60 votes in the Senate to pass. Assuming all Republicans vote for his bill, which 8 Democrats does Rand know that will vote for his bill?

If they completely repeal O-Care and can't get 8 Democrats to vote for any bill, what happens to our HC system and the coverage for people? what happens in future elections?

My concept was something along the lines of getting a credit card or bank account with an out of state bank. Those are subject to the rules of the state where the bank is incorporated, are they not?
