The number is high but not more than half as no state has a population that is comprised of more than 50% illegal alien. Furthermore, while illegal aliens have babies here, they are not covered by Medicaid. However, their babies would be covered as they are citizens.
CA has 50% kids born with Medicaid. Half of those, or 25% of all births being born to illegals, sounds close to me.
You assume that illegal aliens and citizens have health insurance at the same rates and since hospitals cannot turn away a woman in labor, they get their baby delivered free.
