MAPLEWOOD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) When it comes time for fifth graders to learn about the history of colonization and slavery, its always a sensitive subject.
As CBS2s Jessica Layton reported, parents like Tracey Jarmon-Woods said it became even more painful after what took place in a 5th grade classroom at her sons school in Maplewood.
There was a sale of a black child by white children in the classroom, Tracey Jarmon-Woods said, If youre demoralized sold on a block in 2017 it may affect you the rest of your life.
A mock slave auction earlier in the month was hotly discussed during after school pickup outside Jefferson Elementary School, and later at a board of education meeting.

If they didn’t have some Irish and Newgate Prisnors on the block then it wasn’t realistic.
Wow, I, and my dad before me, went to school in that system long ago. My how times changed. In those days, there were few to pick from for slaves. Not so much today.
It used to be one of the top school systems in the state. Again, not so much today.
Wrong! The most important war in United States history was The Revolution.
I always struggle with when buying slaves if I should get the extended warranty package
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
It was done by a substitute teacher. We need to know the race of the sub. If he’s white then this is stupid only because of the backlash. If he’s black then there is clearly some motivation behind this that is not good.
Watched my DVD of that a couple of weeks ago. Some of my ancestors on my Mom’s side were sold in Charles Town. Later they were run aways living with the Cherokees.
We played Cowboys and Indians too, and because I was the youngest, I was always the one who got captured and tied up. Somehow I grew up normal without being traumatized. There were no snowflakes in the 50’s.
How much did they get for him?
Well, if you’re too stupid to teach kids who to read guess you might as well teach them to ‘resent and hate’... Pour salt into the wounds keep the hate alive...
The only 'morality' the left has is standing up for black citizens.
During the civil rights movement of the 60's (when it mattered and rights really were trampled on) - these same types sat it out... They were AWOL. Now 'opening old wounds and wallowing' is all democrats have left in the area of 'morality'.
Well, guess they do have 'men who want to use little girls bathrooms'... and cry if they can't get their way - - but that's not easy to run on...
You have a great point, and I did mention the Revolution to them, but more as the establishing event.
Exactly.
