Trump To Sign Law That Increases Drug Tests for Unemployed Seeking Benefits
Conservative Tribune ^ | March 18 2017 | Conservative Tribune

Welfare reform has been a high priority for Republicans and conservatives for many years, and now that President Donald Trump is in the White House, the possibility of such reform is finally feasible.

In what was quite possibly the opening salvo on welfare leeches, Trump was ready to sign a bill passed by Congress that would allow states to perform drug tests on those applying for unemployment benefits, WITI reported.

Under President Barack Obama, states weren’t allowed to test applicants for drugs unless they were applying for a job that already had mandatory drug testing. However, there’s a new sheriff in town — and he’s backed by a Republican-controlled Congress that, while far from perfect, is at least more likely to pass common-sense legislation like this than any legislative body under the control of people like former House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

Had to switch from an ACE inhibitor (Ramipril) to an ARB (Losartan) for the same reason.

In my circles that crowd is mostly Wounded Warrior vets.

I’m sure they would LOVE to have a conversation with you about cannabis.

Every one of these guys has a pain medication choice to make - smoke a joint every now and then, OR consume a massive pile of essentially experimental pharmaceuticals on a daily basis.

government program. I know you know better than that.

Drugs (legal and illegal) in some places are an out-of-control problem. Subsidies that enable a life of no work and very bad behavior are an out-of-control problem. The only way to bend the curve is to stop "money for nothing". Instead, only reward those who are willing to lead decent, productive lives. It might take a government program to rein in out-of-control government programs. It's an Alice-in-Wonderland world we live in.

In OH, how bad is it? Yesterday's news was about two parents who were found dead from a drug overdose. The dad was a commercial airline pilot!

I am certainly with you all the way on the reduction or even elimination of welfare subsidies.

However, drug testing isn’t a route to get there, not even a little bit. It’s a proven waste that benefits nobody but the drug testing companies.

Conservatives, in order to maintain moral and intellectual integrity, need to confront and address the question “Does this policy actually work?” before supporting one.

This particular policy does not work and it has long since been proven beyond any reasonable doubt.

Big difference between social security and welfare. I paid for my social security.

I'll accept your premise that "drug testing programs don't work". The question that still remains is how to bend the curve.

I'll present a totally politically and socially unacceptable hypothesis here. Young men, under age 35 or so have to be kept busy and responsible. The Egyptians built pyramids to keep their excess population occupied. Hunter gatherers the men killed things and provided for families. Traditional cultures, men work and protect and provide for their families. The draft and wars keep them off the streets.

How can modern civilization survive if those young men aren't kept busy with jobs and responsibilities to their family and community?

Do you know why we had Jennifer Grandholm as Gov for 8 yrs ( or at least the last 4 years of it )?

One of the big reasons sited is Besty DeVos's Husband, Dick DeVos who ran for Governor of Michigan and one of his hallmarks in his platform was to have welfare recipients drug tested.

Maybe the time for such requirements are here and it may take federal/POTUS action to make it happen, even though I'd rather see a 10th Amendment-ish solution.

Couple of years ago, Texas legislature passed a bill that was to drug test those seeking welfare benefits. They added those folks who lost their jobs and sought unemployment insurance payments.

All said and done, the bill passed, only after stripping out those on welfare. Grrrrr.

Folks sitting on their duffs get a pass from drug testing but those who lose their job and collect unemployment while trying to find another have to undergo drug test.

Now howz that for stupidity.

Social Security is a welfare program. Not a trust fund. Not a lock box. You paid for other people. Other people are paying and will pay for you.

If I have to take a drug test in order to be employed (and pay taxes), they certainly can be drug-tested to take my hard-earned tax money for their welfare.

Trump to sign into law X

Some leftist judge overturning whatever X is in 5,4,3,2,1.

Yurtle the turtle will take a zillion vacations and otherwise put the Senate in recess before confirming any Trump judicial nominees or otherwise do nadda to curb judicial overreach.

The military services have drug tested since 1971 when Golden Triangle heroin was ravaging our troops in Vietnam. I had my first one there, and my last one was in 2010 the day before I retired. Part of the military way of life.

Welfare recipients should darn well be tested, too.

They should start testing the welfare recipients.....way before the unemployed. As usual, their priorities are screwed up.

Soooo, somebody who draws unemployment is now a welfare leech?

I am will to bet the vast majority of Freepers, with a few exceptions, have drawn unemployment at some point in their lives.

WTF?

I was subjected to mandatory drug testing while in the military, including while in Afghanistan. I have absolutely no issues with drug testing welfare recipients. In fact, I have no problem with making them work for their benefits.

“The fact that she went borderline psychotic right after she started using again is. Coincidental?”

Some people do not have a strong grip on reality to begin with. They are the ones who can be pushed to psychosis by pot.

It DOES happen.
