Its a standard uniform element of European light cavalry of every country - including, say, Britain, Spain, Italy, France, Sweden - into the 20th century.

Yes, that is where I saw it. It was worn by male members of a Hungarian folk group that came to Folkmoot in the late 80s. It is indeed a traditional Hungarian jacket. It is not a Hungarian Nazi collaborator's jacket. What an ignorant woman Michelle Goldberg must be. She is impugning the culture of an entire country.
