Which is a fancy way of saying what's really going on - Cuba is a tourist hellhole. The service stinks, the amenities are gross, the place is thick with thieves and woman-gropers, the cost is high and the alternatives are out there, In fact, the Caribbean is loaded with pleasant, accommodating destinations well worth a tourist's dollar for a vacation. Taking a vacation at a communist military-run resort really falls more into the Gulag category.
How is this for tourist hell? Observers noticed Cuban customs officials rummaging through tourist luggage and taking what they wanted. When they complained, they were thrown in jail. Some tourist operation they've got there, In fact, the place is a security risk because no professional or U.S. or U.S.-standard officials are involved. Mangy street dogs are what pass for security dogs in Havana. You can expect cockroaches in your breakfast cereal and tourist bulletin boards such as this one say bring your own toilet paper.
Cuba's officials aren't even interested in making their foreign investors happy. American businesses have but one purpose, according to reports, that is to serve through their presence in Havana as bait to attract other sucker businesses, the better to rob them all.

an obamaesque paradise
Not that I was liberal then, but the sight of communism “in practice” set the dye for the rest of my conservative life (am age 66 now)
Glad I went to the Society Islands before those two. beautiful place will be forever tainted. maybe he can sign the “famous names” board out side of Bloddy Mary’s . right under Juan mystain.
I went there as a 14 year old not long after the initial wall went up. That was in ‘62 if I remember correctly. Passed through Checkpoint Charlie. Talk about depressing. Still mounds of debris from WW II including swastika’d eagles from the tops of building laying on the ground. Few people on the streets. VERY few private vehicles on the street. Yeah, it was an eye opener. I still have a map of Berlin from that period showing the zones with barbed wire depictions on it. I had it laminated to preserve it since it was starting to deteriorate. Younger folks do NOT understand the depths of communism.
It all boils down to arrogance. Conservatives are really just humble realists who know these schemes are doomed from the start. Sadly, there's a generation (or two) who believe computers will make the difference . . . this time.
Have you seen Cuba’s travel posters?
“Come To Beautiful Cuba And Get VD!”
As a community organizer Obama thought he had all the answers for the south side of Chicago. He only produced results for himself. Castro did the same for Cuba. The Democrats and the Communist have a lot in common. They both want everyone to be equally poor—except those in control. Cuba is a Hellhole and so is Detroit, Chicago, Los Angeles, Baltmore, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.. Trump is busy at work on cleaning up D. C. The House of Representatives is scheduled to work eight days in April. He won’t get much help out of them, but then perhaps they won’t be there to get in his way.
I’m doubting this. Cuba has been a favorite Caribbean resort destination for Canadians for decades. This seems much more like a hit piece, not an objective report.
Not so sure about this article. I know Canadians that have vacationed in Cuba several times. They claim the beaches are great and the food is pretty bad. Crime was not a problem at all.
Once you take away the rights of individual freedom, success and liberty, you destroy the essence of nation, growth, prosperity and great success !!! Hence Cuba and a picture of the upcoming USA under progressive Democrat socialist/communist/fascist controls!!! God bless Donald J. Trump!!! Free the Cuban people, POTUS, Trump!!!
Oh, that (catamaran) would be galaxies different than a cruise ship. As different as it would be possible to be. I don’t put down the cruise ship thing at all. I think they do a great job, it’s pretty cheap, but it is that way because they have done everything they do a billion times so it’s a bit corny and formulaic in its way. But it’s no more expensive than a medium-high end hotel and there’s nothing wrong with going on a few cruises. You can really shut your brain off and that has a certain appeal.
As long as you fiendishly wash your hands often, REALLY often, it’s fine.
LOL, I work in a hospital, so during the cruise I am going on soon, I will be washing my hands as if were at work.
Wait...that is a vacation?????
We spent Christmas week in eastern Puerto Rico a couple years ago. Pleasant weather, good chow. No one spoke English...
Wasn’t Brando gay?
Caveat Emptor. Years ago we took a vacation to Cancun. Our return flight was delayed for four hours. Mexico had demanded a bribe to let our flight leave. The crew said no, so they were all arrested and then told their FAA licenses were invalid and then confiscated. After hours of wrangling the airline paid the bribe and we were finally allowed to takeoff. Mexico is the North American hellhole.
Heh. At a hospital, assuming you might be a nurse (which I am completely out of line assuming but will do so anyway) you might come in contact with....10-15 co-staff and 50-80 patients in the course of a day? (Pure guesswork) And you probably put on a fresh pair of neoprene gloves every time you go to a new patient where you’re touching them and not just checking something off on a clipboard?
On a ship where you are urged to grab handrails ascending/descending stairs, you are so unbelievably intimate with the hygiene habits of 2000-5000 people; from various different cultures; from ALL parts of the country; many of whom are sick and no way are they gonna cancel their cruise they booked 5 months earlier.....that it’s borderline unthinkable.
They love it because it’s relatively cheaper than other island destinations. There are resort hotels that if you stick to them alone you can have a passable vacation. Since I have never been I can only pass on what others have told me.
“you are so unbelievably intimate with the hygiene habits of 2000-5000 people; from various different cultures...”
Ehh, I went on the Carnival Paradise out of Tampa last year and thought the same lines. What I found out was the crew does wipedowns and there’s plenty of hand sanitizer around. They have various protocols for sickness and disinfection. Think about it. There are many other places which see more people per day yet I doubt if any follow the health protocols the cruise ships use.
