Donald Trump Jr. jabbed the media on Tuesday evening after MSNBC reported on President Trump's 2005 personal income tax return.
"Thank you Rachel Maddow for proving to your #Trump hating followers how successful @RealDonaldTrump is & that he paid $40mm in taxes! #Taxes," Trump Jr. tweeted.
"Watching the media aka #fakenews implode on tv now because they got what they wanted is simply awesome. #thankyoumaddow #TrumpTaxReturns," Trump added. "Now @CNN is upset that the returns that they have been dying to get their hands on for 18 months are out but it doesn't fit their narrative!"
An unverified copy of President Trump's 2005 personal income tax return states that he paid $5.3 million in federal income tax and $31 million in alternative minimum tax on the $150 million income that year, paying an effective rate of just over 25 percent that year, MSNBC reported late Tuesday.
David Cay Johnston, a Daily Beast columnist and author of the anti-Trump book The Making of Donald Trump, published what he said were the first two pages of Trump's tax return from 11 years ago shortly before appearing on "The Rachel Maddow Show" to promote his findings. Johnston said he obtained the partial tax return from an anonymous source.
Prior to the show, the White House took proactive action by releasing a statement that revealed the amount Trump had paid in taxes in 2005.
"You know you are desperate for ratings when you are willing to violate the law to push a story about two pages of tax returns from over a decade ago," a White House spokesman said in a statement. "Before being elected President, Mr. Trump was one of the most successful businessmen in the world with a responsibility to his company, his family and his employees to pay no more tax than legally required. That being said, Mr. Trump paid $38 million dollars even after taking into account large scale depreciation for construction, on an income of more than $150 million dollars, as well as paying tens of millions of dollars in other taxes such as sales and excise taxes and employment taxes and this illegally published return proves just that."
If someone from Team Trump dropped the return,it was pure genius.
AMT is an eviel tax and needs to go away.
Or at the least re-adjusted for its initial purpose which was for the super rich to pay taxes, not the upper middle class or someone who had one good year and made $400k
True. An adjustment would go a long way to improving the situation. I would still like to see it gone. I have been caught in it a time or two. Usually after a couple of lean years and then to have a hugh chunk taken after a good year hurts.
" a hugh chunk"
Man, that’s gotta hurt...
heh heh heh...
Will MSNBC pay back the money it got from the bail out?
Yes, but can CNN tell us whether Trump is using the correct depreciation schedule on the elevator cables in Trump Tower. It’s necessary to know this.
Maybe not cables. Many of them are now hydraulic. Much safer.
"a hugh chunk"
hugh = high
TRUMP PAID HIGHER TAX RATE [25%] THAN MSNBC COMCAST [24%]... MUCH HIGHER THAN OBAMA [19%]... AND BERNIE [13%]!
I thought this was a hoot.
Thanks.
Blinded by their hatred, it’s going to be a long 8 years for these losers...
Lois Lerner?
“Maybe not cables. Many of them are now hydraulic. Much safer.”
Hydraulic elevators are only good for two or three floors! I know, I have one. In Trump Tower, trust me, the elevators are going up and down on cables.
“Blinded by their hatred, its going to be a long 8 years for these losers...”
Make that 16 years! There’s a President in Training, Mike Pence coming along.
This informs me that the leaker was Donald Trump himself.
