Feds file motion to dismiss charges against Ammon Bundy's lawyer Marcus Mumford

Special federal prosecutors assigned to the criminal case against Ammon Bundy's lawyer filed a motion Monday to dismiss all the charges against Marcus Mumford.

The motion comes more than three weeks after a judge dropped one of three charges against Mumford and ruled that he would decide the remaining two charges after a trial.

It comes on the first business day after a federal jury in Portland found four remaining defendants guilty on a variety of charges stemming from the occupation of Malheur National Wildlife Refuge.....

"I'm thankful the case is being dismissed," said Mumford's attorney Michael Levine.

He said he didn't know what prompted the government's decision. He's waiting for the judge to sign the dismissal order.

"It's not over until it's over," Levine said....

"Completely unexpected...On the one hand, I want to commend them for doing the right thing," Mumford said Monday night. "On the other hand, it makes me wonder why they did it. There's more unanswered questions.".....

The lawyer who was tackled to the floor and tasered in the courtroom at the end of last fall's trial in Oregon is going to be 'off the hook' if the judge approves a request by prosecutors to drop the charges.

Marcus Mumford was being accused over his arguments before the judge following the acquittal of his client, Ammon Bundy, along with the other six at the first of the standoff trials last fall.

I am posting for Nextrush who was suspended again for making a story on the verdicts in the second trial "Front Page News" last Saturday.

He is still posting on this and other Oregon stuff at "Nextrush Free".

How about some charges for the Marshalls that attacked him?

It looked like those tackling Marshalls acted outside the bounds of the law and thus should be penalized for their attack on an unarmed man in a court of law.

I vote prison.

Criminal charges certainly seem appropriate.

However, disciplinary action should be much, much faster.

Seems like an attack on an officer of the Court, inside a courtroom, would be grounds for dismissal.

And right in front of a judge, no less.

I wonder if the court reporter documented the assault, and it is thus part of the official record.

Thank you for posting! The Marshall’s were angry they lost and they clearly disregarded the judge’s commands to stand down. Once again, the authorities abused their power and we the people are FED up. Well at least those of us that are paying attention.

"On the other hand, it makes me wonder why they did it. There's more unanswered questions.".....

Considering that it came on the heels of the firing of the remaining Obama AG's, I would guess it was done because the lawyers in charge were originally told to pursue the case against their better judgement and the person giving that order is now unemployed.

The direction of the wind shifted and they shifted with it.
