Aid Workers with Franklin Graham's Samaritan's Purse Kidnapped in South Sudan

Rebels in South Sudan have reportedly abducted eight aid workers with the Christian humanitarian organization Samaritan's Purse. The group is led by Franklin Graham, son of famed evangelist Billy Graham.

According to a military official, the kidnappers are demanding food as ransom.

****snip***** "Samaritan's Purse confirms that some of our South Sudanese staff in the Mayendit area of South Sudan have been detained by armed personnel. We have been in contact with them and they have not been harmed."

Late last month, South Sudan's government and UN agencies said several counties, including Mayiandit, were facing severe famine.

***snip***

"The famine in South Sudan is man-made," Stephen O'Brien, a United Nation's spokesman said. "Parties to the conflict are parties to the famine - as are those not intervening to make the violence stop."

Samaritan's Purse has been working in South Sudan for many years.

"The nation has the potential to be considered the bread basket of East Africa, yet is now experiencing significant food shortages because of civil strife," Samaritan's Purse' website claims.

The aid group says ongoing violence and insecurity "have made it nearly impossible for civilians to plant and harvest crops."

Africa. Someday will be a land flowing with milk and honey. I'll have to find out what they are fighting about. Other than that, my first thought was how different it is going to be when Jesus rules, eh? Question is, do you make deals with kidnappers?

Almighty God, please bless Your children in danger. Turn this evil into glory for You and into saved souls as was done long ago with the imprisoned apostles. Thank You, dear Lord, for being with the hostages and with their loved ones. Please guide those who are trying to help them, and please grant a miracle to these precious souls. In Jesus’ Holy Name, Amen.

I'll never understand the Churchian obsession with trying to save savages all across the world.

These naive "Christians" go to the filthy toilet of Africa with their do-gooderism and are surprised that the locals kidnap them.

Hey Franklin Graham: there are plenty of needy Americans that could use some help. Stop cucking yourself for illiterate savages!

The starving do stupid things, like destroying the peaceful orderly society in which crops can be raised, harvested, and marketed.

IMHO, Christian groups can be the most rapid responders in this case, if and only if, the airlift of food is accompnied by an air cap courtesy of the American military.

IMHO, rather that taking on the cost and risk of manned aircraft, just tell the kidnappers that food will be delivered this time only on condition of kidnapees being released in good condition first. And tell them that a demonstration of peace through superion firepower will occur in the desert outside of town at location X, so clear it or else.

Then MOAB it.

Remember in that part of the world, Power and Vengeance are the universal language, understood by all.

That’s their mission, to spread the gospel and save souls. Samaritan’s Purse is one of the great, honest charities that actually put your donation to good use rather than blowing the vast majority of it on salaries and administrative overhead. They deserve your prayers and support, not condemnation.

There are tons of food pantries and places where Christians feed people here. To compare the needy of America to other countries is staggering. Mission trip after mission trip I see true poverty. Here i see kids clothed in Underarmor (I can’t afford that).. and mom with an ebt. If you want help, walk into a church, almost any time of day.. I have an ex employee with a Mercedes and two other cars, well her kids get free healthcare. Between housing subsidies, free healthcare, obamaphones, clothing subsidies, tax credits, the “Poor Americans” get over 40,000. That is not poor in other parts of the world. I do think the elderly truly struggle, but we can’t really help them because of the healthy welfare class, that simply get paid not to work.

Ah, some good FR curmudgeonism on display. Congratulations for producing such a fine example.

You are, indeed, not understanding. But never say never.

P.S. I doubt anyone actually involved is, or was, surprised at all.

P.P.S. Normally posts like yours don't warrant a response, but you seemed intent on provoking one by calling Franklin Graham a cuck. It's likely the term describes you more than it does him.

Samaritan's Purse is a legal, privately funded organization run by donated money. The people who give have no illusions where the money is going. This is not a government program, which would have little business doing what Samaritan's Purse is doing. You are equating the two.

If their goal is to "save" savages by whatever means they deem appropriate and is honest, it is a worthy and voluntary project. You are not required to pay for it nor do you have the right to tell them where and how to expend their efforts and money.

The Samaritan’s Purse are also of the first boots on the ground within the United States whenever we have hurricanes or disasters that misplace people. They go to grieving neighborhoods here. They go behind enemy combat lines there.
They bring Love and Practical Help.

I thought that was the Southern Baptist Men’s organization.

Churchian naivete by "helping" illiterate Stone Age level savages in a filthy African toilet is the very definition of "cuck."

These churchian do gooders have no idea the damage they are causing.

If they think Africa is struggling now, wait a few decades when the population there triples or more and the savages can't feed themselves.

There will be starvation and death on a previously unimaginable scale, and all the donations, prayers, and good intentions from the Churchians won't make a difference.

Americans have no business going around the world saving savages from themselves. It's always failed, and always will.

But of course they're free do what they like, and they won't stop. They're nothing more than Social Justice Warriors of a different ideology.

Praise the LORD, prayers were answered. I wonder if there will be conversions! However, it did come to light that “A South Sudanese military official initially claimed that rebels had demanded food in exchange for their release, but Samaritan’s Purse says that report was untrue.”

Ransom rumor, I guess. For those who call every poor nation a savage, it is from every nation, tribe, language, and people that God calls those He loves. Listen carefully for the whisper of His voice for every human is a savage, it is only by the Grace of God that we show any good. Hell will show us that, as will heaven.
