Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) said there could be a connection between the firing of former U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara and investigations into President Trump.
During an interview on ABC's "This Week," Cummings, the ranking member of the House Oversight Committee, said the president has the right to fire U.S. attorneys.
But he noted that not very long ago, the president said he was willing to "keep the U.S. attorney there in New York."
"And then suddenly, he's, I guess, changed his mind," Cummings said.
"I'm just curious as to why that is and certainly there's a lot of questions coming up as to whether ... President Trump is concerned about the jurisdiction of this U.S. attorney and whether that might affect his future," he continued.
"You look at everything surrounding the investigations -- there are a lot of questions that need to be asked, but again, the president does have that prerogative."
Last week, watchdog groups asked Bharara to investigate Trump regarding foreign business deals, according to The Washington Post. The groups requested the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York look into whether the president had gotten benefits from foreign governments, in violation of the Emoluments Clause.
"I think that, again, what has been happening is that there is an air of distrust that has been brought on by President Trump himself," Cummings said Sunday.
"So I think that in part, the president has created this situation for himself. But yea, sure, no doubt about it, when they asked about the Emoluments Clause and possible violations of it and the U.S. attorneys relationship to that, I think that had perhaps something to do with."
When pressed further on whether he thinks there might be a connection, Cummings said: "There very well may be."

had gotten benefits from foreign governments.
Cummings must not know what Hillary was doing for years? OH wait she’s a democrat rats live in same nest.
Clinton fired 923 Attorneys when he started. Why does no one ever pointing this out?
Typo. 93 US Attorneys
“Rednecks should be discouraged from inbreeding.”
Some sexually normal people have the responsibility to reproduce; if not all the liberal homosexual same sex marriages produce nothing .... just like the nothings.
Personally, I think it is just plain stupid. When the President calls, any US citizen should return the call.
Now if the President wants to talk about a specific investigation, respectfully telling him that talking about that investigation is unethical and against the rules is honorable.
But, refusing to talk at all is just plain disrespectful and being a jerk.
For a long time, Preet got a lot of good press. But we need to remember who was running the press and their agenda. I may be starting to smell something like being hard on low-level dems, but letting the higher level ones get away with a lot of corruption.
And, the prosecution of Dinesh was way overdone. Sure, he was guilty, but it was a very low-level crime. He was treated harshly because he is such a good advocate for conservative thought.
Be careful buddy. When you tell lies like that, you might end up losing an eye. Just ask Reid.
Tripple Down
Cummings is a professional liar...and not a very good one at that!
There’s an excellent post (see #20) on this thread regarding just what it might be, and probably is the reason, this guy was fired.

Who has a face like a Shar-Pei!
“Since I heard him tell that Admiral that if we stationed too many troops on Guam the island could tip over it’s been hard for me to take anything this rocket scientist says seriously. “
You’ve got the wrong Black Guy. You are thinking of Cong. Hank “Guam is Capsizing” Johnson from one of the Carolinas. I don’t think Cummings is quite that stupid, but close!
That's the political game they are playing, and Bharara the Obama appointed political hack, who unconstitutionally helped imprison Dinesh, is part of it.
“I think we need to investigate whether or not Cummings cavorts with prostitutes on a regular basis.”
Yes, because we all want to know what kind of a paper bag the whore uses over his head!
Cummings is a large pile of horsesh*t, someone needs to shovel him off the sidewalk.
Yawn. He's been "investigating" Cuomo for three years. Where's the Clinton investigation? Skills was a Republican. Any prosecution of DeBlasio and Cuomo will only come about IF it becomes politically expedient for Hillary or Obama.
And there was the patriot Dinesh who was locked up because he was exercising his right to political free speech.
Bharara is a political hack.
>>I would disagree.
>>Clinton was under investigation for campaign finance violations when he was a Governor.
>>He couldnt just fire the one, it would be like gas on a fire, so he fired them all
So you agree with Cummings in principle?
Here’s why I disagree with you and Cummings. 1993 was a different America that 2017. In those days, the “loyal opposition” was just that, in opposition politically but loyal to the Constitution and the law. Today’s “loyal opposition” is in opposition ideologically and not loyal to the (as they would put it) “outdated notion of the nation-state, especially our own racist, sexist, xenophobic, homophobic nation and the laws used by the majority to establish a nation of divisiveness and exclusion”. Yeah, that’s BS, but that is what they believe.
So, Clinton may have fired his for personal reasons, but Trump has to fire his because any Obama appointee cannot be trusted. In fact, you can’t even trust an Obama voter because they only vote for special interest pandering and wealth transfers.
This guy is a real POS! I mean POS!
Well old liver lips has spoken again. Cummings is a moron and besides, who gives a damn what he thinks.
OMG you are Sohhhhh fooking stew pet...
