Cummings: There 'very well may be' connection between Bharara firing and investigations into Trump
The Hill ^ | 3/12/2017 | Rebecca Savransky

Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) said there could be a connection between the firing of former U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara and investigations into President Trump.

During an interview on ABC's "This Week," Cummings, the ranking member of the House Oversight Committee, said the president has the right to fire U.S. attorneys.

But he noted that not very long ago, the president said he was willing to "keep the U.S. attorney there in New York."

"And then suddenly, he's, I guess, changed his mind," Cummings said.

"I'm just curious as to why that is and certainly there's a lot of questions coming up as to whether ... President Trump is concerned about the jurisdiction of this U.S. attorney and whether that might affect his future," he continued.

"You look at everything surrounding the investigations -- there are a lot of questions that need to be asked, but again, the president does have that prerogative."

Last week, watchdog groups asked Bharara to investigate Trump regarding foreign business deals, according to The Washington Post. The groups requested the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York look into whether the president had gotten benefits from foreign governments, in violation of the Emoluments Clause.

"I think that, again, what has been happening is that there is an air of distrust that has been brought on by President Trump himself," Cummings said Sunday.

"So I think that in part, the president has created this situation for himself. But yea, sure, no doubt about it, when they asked about the Emoluments Clause and possible violations of it and the U.S. attorneys relationship to that, I think that had perhaps something to do with."

When pressed further on whether he thinks there might be a connection, Cummings said: "There very well may be."

I wonder if Cummings would call for an investigation if Trump farted in the wrong direction...

Hey, what is the correct direction? I have a compass but just need the specific compass point to do it right. Also, must one account for the wind? I may need more instruments.

Once again , projection from democrats. When Bill Clinton ordered the US Attorneys fired, he actually was under investigation for his firing of the White House Travel Office personnel and installing his own people there.

I think we need to investigate whether or not Cummings cavorts with prostitutes on a regular basis.

Maybe Trump was going to tell him he’d better get his ass in gear and indict Hillary. In the words of one member of Congress, “That very well may be”.

Lot’s of things “may very well be”.

“There may very well be” connections between this cummings fool and what my dog left in the yard this morning. This moron’s “I walking with MLK race card” ran out a long time ago. What a poltroon and a buffoon.

In this case I think it’s true this AG would have covered Trump Towers I think the reason this AG refuse to give his resignation letter when asked the AG’s trying to cover his ass

In effect Cummings is admitting that there was a Tap going on in Trump. That the point Obama was using is legal powers to spy on Trump

"And then suddenly, he's, I guess, changed his mind," Cummings said.

Just like I did with James Comey regarding Hillary's emails...

Trump fired potentially disloyal AGs, just like Clinton did

I would disagree.
Clinton was under investigation for campaign finance violations when he was a Governor.
He couldn’t just fire the one, it would be like gas on a fire, so he fired them all

You know this bald headed pos might be on to something. There very well may be a connection between Trump and the location of the Statue of Liberty as well. I mean think about it; they are both tall, both from New York and both right handed. Maybe Schumer should call for an investigation of this very suspicious “coincidence.”

Cummings got hit on the head, supposedly, with a brick, and that makes him an elder statesman on the world scene. That hit is immeasurably more important, more critical, than the millions of Americans who have faced bullets on the battlefields, or the average policeman who walks over to a car with tinted windows.

I could not agree more .. Every time there is any hearing, he’s there making a mockery of the whole thing. And, the right seems to make excuses for him and treat him like he’s some sort of important person .. good grief.

His protectionist practices with Hillary Clinton were especially agonizing. It really irked me that he claimed all kinds of special perks for Hillary, and practically spit on any non-democrat who came before the hearing.

I usually just press my mute button.
