Preet Bharara says he was fired "moments ago." He reiterated that he did not resign his post as Manhattan's federal prosecutor.

"I did not resign," Bharara said in a tweet. "Moments ago I was fired. Being the US Attorney in SDNY will forever be the greatest honor of my professional life."

Can you correct the misspelling of “Preet” in the title?

Thank you.

So did I. Frankly, I am surprised by this move.

I thought it had been reported that Bhangra had visited Trump at TT after the election. If I recall correctly, the assumption was that he would stay in his job at SDNY.

I will assume that Sessions knows what he is doing unless good evidence to the contrary is presented.

Bharara is gone, but he ginned up a fake controversy to boost his political prospects. Next he will be Mayor of NYC???

If he was protecting Weiner and Hillary, good riddance.

Why would anyone not know that The Prez Donald has years of experience pointing his firing finger?

Plus what has he done about the Clinton money laundering foundation? The Clintons are New York residents who CLEARLY CLEARLY CLEARLY were using a charity to enrich themselves through a pay to play scheme! The evidence is beyond overwhelming and this guy has been sitting on his hands about it.

This is really unusual behavior from a professional. I wonder if there is a back story that will throw it in a different light. It almost sounds like theater.

“He prosecuted Dinesh D’Souza the Obama critic and asked for two years prison time”

Then it’s good he was fired. This was a BS case & certainly didn’t warrant a 2 year sentence. Others did much worse and no charges were brought. There has been way too much open defiance of Trump he was asked to resign so that is it.

Oh no, not again.

Did that guy just divide by zero? Right there by the dam?

There is a reason why we are told in school:

“NEVER DIVIDE BY ZERO!”

I had forgotten about that. With so many cases, much more serious IMO, he chose to prosecute Dinesh D’Souza. I wonder if President Trump's people reminded him of that.

I wish President Trump would simply give D'Souza a full pardon.

Loved both D’Souza’s movies. Looking forward to the next one. What is the acronym ‘PDT’?

Indeed. Trump, for all he is to some and isn’t to others, is no more abusing the office by firing him than any before him.

Personally, I’d be mighty tired of looking at Wall Street and New York and its corruption&dirty laundry day in and day out and take a nice vacation..

Mighty convenient that he gets to leave the Cuomos and DeBlasios & Clintons behind and get ready for the next opportunity to serve our country.. No, a blessing is more like it. ;-)

I understand that. What I’m trying to find out is why when he was going after both the mayor of NYC and the governor for corruption. Is there something we don’t know, like is he on the take?

See post #8:
He prosecuted Dinesh D’Souza the Obama critic and asked for two years prison time for a very minor election law violation that Democrats get a slap on the wrist for.

USA for SDNY is a very important position and PDT needs to be sure whoever is in there will carry out the prosecutorial policies of the Trump admin and the Sessions DOJ.

You clearly do not live in NY. Preet was on the cusp of nailing both DeBlasio and Cuomo for corruption. He is the epitome of what is needed in a US Attorney. Why the President went in this direction I cannot say but IMO it is absolutely the wrong direction.

From a DOJ article:

"Prior to becoming the U.S. Attorney, Mr. Bharara served as Chief Counsel and Staff Director of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Administrative Oversight and the Courts. During his tenure, he helped to lead the Senate Judiciary Committee investigation of the firing of United States Attorneys."

That was during GWB's tenure. Obama appointed him to the DOJ position in early 2009. He's also a Democrat.

I wonder if we found one of our leakers and whether he was part of the electronic surveillance at Trump Tower.

He should have just submitted his resignation, then request reappointment. It was quite possible that he would get another position.

Refusal was just a play act to another goal. Don’t let him in the office again.
