Yeah, it is kind of interesting how these labels emerge. Apparently “black” is considered a race. So is “white”. But Hispanic is more of a language / ethnicity (as far as government forms go, etc.)
I never heard the term “white Hispanic” before the news media labeled George Zimmerman with it. But his last name is Jewish. Go figure.
Thaddeus Jimenez is white. The gang he formed is connected to his family gang affiliation, which was a white gang that had Hispanic gang rivals.
So I thought it was quite odd that his last name is Hispanic, but he gravitates back to the racially associated gang membership.
It appears he did not fit in too well in prison. I wonder if that had anything to do with having a mixed heritage and a white gang affiliation.
Most Hispanics who claim they are Hispanic really aren’t, and even then couldn’t correctly define what that means.
The Mexican gov’t claims it’s population is racially homogeneous which is the biggest LOL I’ve ever heard.
I’m of the opinion, that only those of Spanish ancestry can claim to be Hispanic. If they want to use “Latin”, fine...
Prove then you’re Portuguese, French, Spanish, Italian or Romanian then.
90% of what passes for Latin or Hispanic in Latin America is a lie.
I heard of white Hispanics in 1991, when I read about the 1990 Census results. The Census Bureau said that Hispanics can be any color. Some white people live in Mexico and Puerto Rico. Almost everyone, who lives in the Dominican Republic, is black. Peru has people whose ancestors came from China and Japan. All of those people are Hispanics because they live in Spanish-speaking places.
