In the shifting saga of how members of the Trump campaign/administration ended up having their phone conversations tapped under the Obama administration, the American people have been fed a series of shifting excuses on how the Obama administration would never violate the laws concerning surveillance of US Persons.
We were told the President cannot order such surveillance (which we know is a false statement, see here and here).
Then we were given the impression by the Fake News Media these “intercepts” were under a FISA court warrant. But later we learned the FISA court rejected the application by Team Obama in June 2016.
Apparently, the Obama’s administration tried twice last year to monitor members of Trump’s campaign. Once via the regular (Title III) courts and once through the FISA Court. So let’s stop pretending this was not something Team Obama desperately wanted to do. The fact they failed does not erase the efforts behind the attempts.
But then something else happened in October. What it was is unclear. Speculation was Team Obama tried either a second run at the FISA court with a more focused application, or they possibly appealed to the FIS Review Court. The initial reports were of a successful FISA application and surveillance warrant in October.
But then DNI Clapper publicly stated that there was no FISA Court warrant targeting team Trump. None.

The only thing right now I am very confident of, is Trump had to have bomb proof evidence, in his hand, to make the public statement he did about Obama. For all we know, Trump could be negotiating their fates behind the scenes as we speak.
And still not one single peep from Mr. Obama regarding this entire story. Not even a direct brief statement from him. Zip.

As a followup, I saw somewhere (didn’t save the link - drats!) that when this sort of thing happens .... US gets foreign intelligence of this sort, that FISA warrants are obtained/used to cover butts.

But all that UK and Dutch data would have been useless if Trump won. Only FISA-approved evidence can be used on this soil. The only data that could be doctored up to use against DJT would have to come from Zero, or ValJar if she forged it and ‘forgot’ to tell him.
Or, they were tapping calls, not to Trump Tower, but in and out of the Russian embassy. That’s where the tap point might have peen, Perfectly legal

Oh, I get it now. That 2hr secret meeting Comey held with all those senators that came out ‘ashen’ a few weeks ago? He was telling them all in info the were weaponizing for use was unusable and they were open to RICO charges for conspiracy. Maybe he then said ‘now: if you have any data legally captured with a FISA warrant, you can use that in your attacks. But you better have transcripts.’
Then Chris Coons blurted out ‘I haven’t seen the transcripts!’ which he two days later ‘corrected’ to mean he meant something else. If there ARE legal transcripts, they’d only cover data from Oct. on. Either way, DJT has zero/Valjar in a vise: why did you tap me days before the election?
HA, yeah I guess I’m inpatient !
Did you read the article? One source says it was a health care company related to Trump’s hotel business.

I think it’s unreasonable to think that when cheating/illegal stuff occurs it’s only on their side. If “everyone is doing it,” it’s pretty likely that anti-Clinton people were also leaking.

Back dating is not necessary. The government taps into everything and stores as much as it can. A warrant just permits looking at what was already captured for the purpose of criminal prosecution, and that could go back years.
Nice picture but that implies the ohola was actually doing some work which we know is beneath his status.
Reminds me of this old joke:

Great stuff, thanks. Assuming we did the tap and not someone like GHCQ, there must be a paper trail because the whole purpose of the FISA warrant is supposed to be to get information that will stand up to legal scrutiny. Thus, chain of evidence etc.
My guess is the Obama-Clinton axis played fast and loose with the process because they were not doing it to charge Trump or anyone with a crime, it was purely to gain information that could be used to damage or destroy him politically. They never dreamed they would end up in a position where they’d have to answer for all this because Hillary would have won.
