Attorney General Jeff Sessions committed perjury during his confirmation hearing when he failed to disclose meetings with a Russian ambassador, Sen. Al Franken told CNN on Tuesday.
"It's hard to come to any other conclusion," Franken said on "The Lead" with Jake Tapper.
Sessions last week said he was recusing himself from any investigations related to President Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign after reports surfaced he had spoken with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak while helping campaign for Trump.
"I have decided to recuse myself from any existing or future investigations of any matters related in any way to the campaigns for President of the United States," Sessions told reporters, adding that his announcement "should not be interpreted as confirmation of the existence of any investigation."
In a letter to Congress Monday, Sessions defended his answers to the Senate Judiciary Committee as "correct" and said he "did not mention communications (he) had had with the Russian ambassador over the years because the question did not ask about them."
Franken told Tapper that Sessions' response was "ridiculous."
"It's not a clarification at all," he said.

That been my point
If the question was: Have you ever had contact with a guy Russian government official?
Then the question would have been that short and simple “Have you ever had contact with the Russian official?”
And would have been ludicrous to ask of a sitting Senator because because we all know they interact with Russian officials it’s part of their job
The question was long and convoluted because it was qualified “Have you ever had contact with a Russian official in your capacity with the Trump campaign as alleged in the latest CNN reports about this dossier?”...
If Franken wants to contend that his question was “Have you ever met with the Russian official?” Why was his entire start of the question long and convoluted, was it an attempted to deceive?
I want to ask Senator Franken ...Do you think your question was perfectly clear on what you say was your point? That you were just asking ....”Have you ever met with the Russian official?”
If that was your question Senator Franken, why didnt you ask it that simple?
Love this picture. And isn’t funny that nobody even seems to notice him ;- )
He is one of them. The rats in Congress don't even think of him as a Russian. He is a big and nice Santa!
You know, you’re absolutely right. Thx.
