Governor Sam Brownback, R-Kansas, has reportedly been offered a new job as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Agencies for Food and Agriculture in Rome.
Kansas Public Radio reports Brownback is preparing to leave Kansas to take the job in Italy. KPR reports that it has talked to an anonymous source that calls the appointment a 'done deal.'
Gov. Brownback would fill the now-vacant position of U.S. ambassador to the U.N. Agencies for Food and Agriculture.

They’ve been really mean to him lately. Sigh.
I have a couple of leftist friends in Kansas, they will be doing back flips in celebration. to say that they ‘loathed’ Brownback is being polite.
He brought it on himself. The budgets cuts haven't been popular with a lot of people. I guess he figures it's "get out of the kitchen" time.
Why in the HELL do we have anything to do with the United Nations Agencies for Food and Agriculture?
And while I’m at it; Why in HELL do we have anything to do with the UN?
Maybe he is going to keep an eye on the pope.
It'll be interesting to see what happens in 2018. Dr. Jeff will become governor, but he's got Brownback as baggage so his chances of winning hover between zilch and none. Kobach wants it, but the moderate Republicans hate him almost as much as Brownback. I've heard they're trying to get Yoder the floater to run for governor as an alternative.
It does sound like a useless job.
Don’t we have an ambassador to the Vatican?
If the cuts being discussed for the State Department go into effect then Brownback will have an ambassadorship but won't have any funding to spend on UN programs. It's about as worthless an appointment as there is, and if Brownback takes it then like I said he must really, really want out of Topeka.
I have to ask; is the governor’s departure a good thing, or not for the Kansas GOP?
I’m ignorant on Kansas’ politics, but I always worry some GOP presidential appointments can take people out of offices the GOP would be served better if they stayed in.
I like Brownback, always have and hate to see him go, but I think he has presidential designs.
He’s slashed taxes, but there’s a shortfall now - partially because the Supreme Court continually orders more school funding. Plus he’s known as a conservative Christian, so anyone left of center loses their damn mind when his name is mentioned.
Perhaps he can skype the job
Maybe it’ll give Coyler a chance to become a popular incumbent for the 2018 race?
With this one, maybe you can’t have too many.
An ambassadorship to Italy is about as plumb as it gets. Somebody must really like him.
Why are we even sending an ambassador to a UN org? samo-samo-samo.
It's not to Italy. It's in Italy.
A true conservative. No room for him in the party. 20 months to go and can’t hold out.
