After months of planning and deliberations, the 75th Ranger Regiment has been deployed to Syria to participate in the war against ISIS as the coalition closes in on the so-called caliphate’s capital city of Raqqa. Yesterday, the first images emerged of Stryker armored vehicles on their way to Manbij. This comes weeks after Rangers deployed to theater with their Strykers and elements of the 75th Ranger Regiment had been passing through Kurdistan.

By looking at the call sign tag on the back of the Stryker, it is evident that this is 3rd Ranger Battalion out of Fort Benning, Georgia,

I wonder if any Obama holdovers are leaking info about the offensive to our enemies?

Never prayed for Assad or ISIS (the folks your buddies Lindsay Graham and McCain funded); don’t support Assad (and know no one who does); want to end Western/Saudi funding of jihadists everywhere.

I am a real Christian and a real patriot. You can tell real Christians in part by the fact that they don’t lie or misrepresent others in a conservative, Christian forum.

Did you support Evan McMullin for President? Or Hillary? Both would seem a great fit for ya!

Trump supporter here! Sorry “bud”!

You just keep bringing up things that have nothing to do with the thread. Probably because much of what you believe about Syria is being destroyed with our contributions to the anti-ISIS/anti-Assad coalition. And if you were a Christian, you wouldn’t favor Assad’s unjust war on his own people. But I doubt you know what the Just War theory is. You know how to talk about balderdash not the subject of the thread, though. Great distraction.

Trump on ISIS, Russia and Assad:

http://www.breitbart.com/video/2015/09/28/trump-let-isis-fight-assad-and-take-over-the-remnants-and-let-russia-fight-isis/

Trump said this:

“...You have Russia, that’s now there, Russia’s on the side of Assad, and Russia wants to get rid of ISIS, as much as we do, if not more, because they don’t want them coming into Russia. And I’m saying, ‘Why are we knocking ISIS, and yet at the same time, we’re against Assad?’ Let them fight, take over the remnants, but more importantly, let Russia fight ISIS, if they want to fight them. Let them fight in Syria. Now, we can fight them in Iraq, but if you think about Iraq, we’ve spent $2 trillion, thousands of lives lost, wounded warriors who we love, and I love all over the place, what do we have in Iraq?””

And this interview, which sounds remarkably similar to what I have written in response to you (whose comments sound like McMullin, Clinton, Obama):

Man, you’re just weird. Here is your problem. US backed forces will defeat ISIS in Mosul and Raqqa in the very near future. And there is nothing you, Assad, or Putin can do about it.

I am done with this thread. No one else is here except you and I. I really don’t care what you think about this issue or any other to be honest. If you have family or friends in theater, I sincerely hope they get home safely as soon as they can.

I’ve only one family member right now in Theater, and he’s killing a lot of bad guys in support of the effort. I’ve a few friends there, and they’re fine. You don’t need to worry about this anymore. It’s being finished.

“It sounds like the ARVN.”

It sounds like music to the ears of the Iraqi embedded Gen Sulliman led Iranian troops ...

No, doesn’t include them either. “Boots on the ground” refers to normal troops, i.e. cannon food.

The rise of Islam has a sponsor, a protector.

Witness the devastating wikileaks CIA drop today.

Enemy action against a Free People - from the ones who are paid with our taxes to protect us, not spy on us.

Worse scum on the earth, much worse than Islamic terrorists.

May they soon be sent to the cornfield is a most unpleasant way.

Politically it is the most complex theater I have ever seen, worse than Afghanistan, and I didn’t think that was possible.

I've done Afghanistan 3 times and CPA-era Iraq once as a contractor. I concur with you on both points.

I’ve been out for awhile, but I would be surprised if Rangers are riding around in Strykers.

If you are not aware of the events that faced the Rangers in Somalia in which their *battle taxis* and were essentialy unarmored HUMMVEEs, see the film Blackhawk Down for a fair approximation.

One good thing about the Rangers: they after-action analyze their operations thoroughly and work quite hard to not repeat expensive mistakes.

They are the finest Light Infantry in the world.

When I was a boy, I was working on my bike. I was trying to drive in a pin with some pliers.

My Dad saw it and stopped me.

He said, “Use the right tool for the job.”

You can put Rangers in a Stryker and get the job done, but I think there are better tools to use for the job.

BTW< to all - I found out the reason we jumped on Manbij is that when the Kurds pulled out per agreement, the Russians and Syrians sent an armored column out of Aleppo to occupy Manbij.

That’s why we had to move so fast, and also into Kobane.

We are meeting with the Russians and Turks right now to plan the Syrian battlefield.

Geez, those Russians are opportunists.

Nah. That would be the Gurkhas.

The post-1970 Ranger Regiment has fine soldiers and excellent leadership, and suffer less from equipment and maintenance shortcomings than other outstanding US Infantry units. They are, in short, American Infantrymen taken to the Olympic athlete level, particularly at the Company and Battalion level.

But individually, in a fire team, squad or platoon, when the trouble begins and especially after the Sun goes down, I'd rather be standing alongside my Ghurkha friends, thank you very much.
