Two separate sources with links to the counter-intelligence community have confirmed to Heat Street that the FBI sought, and was granted, a FISA court warrant in October, giving counter-intelligence permission to examine the activities of U.S. persons in Donald Trumps campaign with ties to Russia.
Contrary to earlier reporting in the New York Times, which cited FBI sources as saying that the agency did not believe that the private server in Donald Trumps Trump Tower which was connected to a Russian bank had any nefarious purpose, the FBIs counter-intelligence arm, sources say, re-drew an earlier FISA court request around possible financial and banking offenses related to the server. The first request, which, sources say, named Trump, was denied back in June, but the second was drawn more narrowly and was granted in October after evidence was presented of a server, possibly related to the Trump campaign, and its alleged links to two banks; SVB Bank and Russias Alfa Bank. While the Times story speaks of metadata, sources suggest that a FISA warrant was granted to look at the full content of emails and other related documents that may concern US persons.
The FBI agents who talked to the New York Times, and rubbished the ground-breaking stories of Slate ( Franklin Foer) and Mother Jones (David Corn) may not have known about the FISA warrant, sources say, because the counter-intelligence and criminal sides of the FBI often work independently of each other employing the principle of compartmentalization.
The FISA warrant was granted in connection with the investigation of suspected activity between the server and two banks, SVB Bank and Alfa Bank. However, it is thought in the intelligence community that the warrant covers any US person connected to this investigation, and thus covers Donald Trump...

What is being done to Trump, is what they did to Mr. Nixon; just on "speed"! That's part of what's driving me round the bend.
Our government is far too damned big and the embedded, lifetime people, are a great danger to this nation, as has been proved beyond a shadow of a doubt!
But thankfully you finally got it taken care of and having a nurse for a wife, helped you a lot too.
Yes, Trump won the election....now, lets see just what he does with it.
And I concur...we ARE in a major war for the heart, soul, and continuance of America, as she once was.
I have that button too, as well as several of "NIXON'S THE ONE", in English, Hungarian, and German and a few others.
I was a young adult, out of college and newly married, but my parents were a good influence on me too.
You have less than NO idea how Trump is feeling or managing and you've made him into a cartoon character.
You, apparently, have not watched Trump very carefully.
Don't pretend that YOU know and understand him, when you have almost nothing in common with him, nor know him personally.
Your saying that using that dumb meme makes me look silly doesn’t make it so-just one mans opinion. In my lifetime, I know of no other candidate less suited to be commander in chief than Hillary (Clinton Foundation, Iranian deals uranium deals, E-Mail scandals and on and on). I am talking about the actual election, not all the shenanigans since. This is the only election that I have literally stayed up all night, watching with great trepidation fearing some last minute glitz would put Hillary in the White House, so yes, for me, this was THE BEST ELECTION EVER.
Okay, the election is over he won, so that meme is meaningless.
*Didn't you ever care who won before?
*Didn't you ever feel that the outcome would lead to disaster, or prevent one before?
I've probably "watched" him for faaaaaaaaaaaaar longer than you have and with more understanding...since he and I grew up in NYC about the same time and lived in Manhattan, at the same time, though I lived there much longer than he had, back then.ROTFLMAO!!! You've made my original point better than I can -- Best. Damn. Election. Ever.
Don't pretend that YOU know and understand him, when you have almost nothing in common with him, nor know him personally.
And unlike you, I know some of his best friends and people talk about others, whether the listener "knows" them or not.
Did you catch that during a press interview Rubio said, he routinely talks to dozens of ambassadors as a US Senator? Seems to me, that is part of a US Senator’s job!
Yes, you’re correct. It is not confined to members of the Foreign Affairs Committee to receive foreign diplomats on their visits to Capitol Hill.
The diplomats have a job, and that’s it. Our officials have a job to receive them. Senator Sessions received the Russian ambassador in his office, by appointment, set up in advance by his aides. The ones squealing the loudest do the same dang thing. Amazing.
ping.
From the article in your post:
“The warrant was sought, they say, because actionable intelligence on the matter provided by friendly foreign agencies could not properly be examined without a warrant by US intelligence as it involves US Persons who come under the remit of the FBI and not the CIA. Should a counter-intelligence investigation lead to criminal prosecutions, sources say, the Justice Department is concerned that the chain of evidence have a basis in a clear warrant.”
It is starting to look like Obama’s people asked the Brit counterpart of NSA to monitor Trumps electronic activity.
Below is how this works in the spy world we live in today:
MUSCULAR (surveillance program)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
MUSCULAR (DS-200B), located in the United Kingdom,[1] is the name of a surveillance programme jointly operated by Britain’s Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) and the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) that was revealed by documents which were released by Edward Snowden and interviews with knowledgeable officials.[2] GCHQ is the primary operator of the program.[1]GCHQ and the National Security Agency have secretly broken into the main communications links that connect the data centers of Yahoo! and Google.[3]Substantive information about the program was made public at the end of October 2013.

Overview[edit]
The programme is jointly run by:
Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) (United Kingdom)
U.S. National Security Agency (NSA)
MUSCULAR is one of at least four other similar programs that rely on a trusted 2nd party, programs which together are known as WINDSTOP. In a 30-day period from December 2012 to January 2013, MUSCULAR was responsible for collecting 181 million records. It was however dwarfed by another WINDSTOP program known (insofar) only by its code DS-300 and codename INCENSER, which collected over 14 billion records in the same period.[4]
Operational details[edit]
According to the leaked document the NSAs acquisitions directorate sends millions of records every day from internal Yahoo! and Google networks to data warehouses at the agencys headquarters at Fort Meade, Maryland. The programme operates via an access point known as DS-200B, which is outside the United States, and it relies on an unnamed telecommunications operator to provide secret access for the NSA and the GCHQ.[3]
According to the Washington Post, the MUSCULAR program collects more than twice as many data points (selectors in NSA jargon) compared to the better known PRISM.[2] Unlike PRISM, the MUSCULAR program requires no (FISA or other type of) warrants.
Because of the huge amount of data involved, MUSCULAR has presented a special challenge to NSA’s Special Source Operations. For example, when Yahoo! decided to migrate a large amount of mailboxes between its data centers, the NSA’s PINWALE database (their primary analytical database for the Internet) was quickly overwhelmed with the data coming from MUSCULAR.[5]
Closely related programmes are called INCENSER and TURMOIL. TURMOIL, belonging to the NSA, is a system for processing the data collected from MUSCULAR.[1]
According to a post-it style note from the presentation, the exploitation relied on the fact that (at the time at least) data was transmitted unencrypted inside Google’s private cloud, with “Google Front End Servers” stripping and respectively adding back SSL from/to external connections. According to the Washington Post: “Two engineers with close ties to Google exploded in profanity when they saw the drawing.” After the information about MUSCULAR was published by the press, Google announced that it was working on deploying encrypted communication between its datacenters.[2]
