Shattuck: For Obama, spying is nothing new
The Boston Herald ^ | 03-06-17 | Tom Shattuck

Posted on 03/06/2017 3:14:44 AM PST by calvincaspian

In what has already been a historically bad year for Democrats, it just may be that they’re about to lose again to Donald Trump, this time in a high-stakes game of Russian roulette.

The Dems’ Putin smear was supposed to paint President Trump as a friend of the tyrant and beneficiary of Russian meddling in the election. Instead, it is the standard-bearer of the Democratic Party, former President Barack Obama, who may take the fall.

There should be an immediate investigation, and we’ll see where the espionage trail leads.

But for those who want you to think this is all just a crazy middle-of-the-night conspiracy theory by an unhinged president that should be ignored, we just spent eight years watching far too many presidential abuses of executive power get swept under the rug not to take a very close look at this one.

There is zero chance that we are not going to “take a very close look at this one.” Let’s start by looking at:

-Who ordered the original application to FISA for surveillance on Trump?

-What was alleged in the application?

-Why was the application denied?

-Who ordered the second application to FISA?

-What was alleged in that application?

-After the FISA court granted the second application, exactly what surveillance was conducted and what did it reveal?

I am amazed at highly educated men in government state how obama could not do this because, basically, it’s against the law or such and such.

Surely they are not that dumb!!! Since when does any law mean anything to obama to stop him from doing something he wants to do. He has corrupted every branch of government since he’s been there.. and corrupted anything else he so chose. He’s not normal... he’s a corrupted politician who would use any means to his end goal.

So these educated grown men .. are they really that dumb? It gives them an out for obama.... if they think the law will stop him. I don’t believe a single one of them and I don’t believe a single media outlet... there are none who would tell the truth.. they say whatever they need to make their point.

It’s a well done article. Did you read it?

The Boston Herald is NOT the Boston Globe.

Question: If Sessions has recused himself from an investigation of russia... that does not mean he has recused himself from obama spying on Trump. Why can’t Sessions be in his capacity as AG for this spying investigation.

Their arguments will make less and less sense as the left tries to wade through the mire they’ve created for themselves in every direction.

This insult to one’s intelligence though is indeed worse than most:

“We know that Obama did not order illegal surveillance on Trump because ordering illegal surveillance is illegal and Obama wouldn’t do something illegal. So that fact alone proves that he didn’t do it.”

Because that requires the understanding and application of a logical and reasoned “distinction” that leftists are intentionally incapable of making.

The whole investigation would degenerate into “Sessions should not be involved!!!!”, screamed nonstop by all medial outlets, unless he stays out.

They’ve probably destroyed all the evidence.

If this was obama, or holder, or lynch.... they’d not have recused in the first place... holder should have more than once and he refused to do so... but in the event he had, he would certainly not stay recused ... he would have gone to bat for whomever, for the spying debacle, and declared himself to not be recused. it’s simple when they don’t abide by any law and do as they please.

I just wish the republicans and in this case, Sessions, would take the bull by the horns and forget the rucuse and do what the AG is supposed to do for this spying case.

I heard them say Trump’s water signing helped his golf courses... they were trying to pin something else onto him. I wish he’d answer them with an “I don’t know and I don’t care”.... and not argue with them..

When I was a kid, my brother teased me. It aggravated me and I could not stop him nor could I stand to be teased. My grandmother told me to ignore him and he’d stop. I couldn’t ignore him, but I can see that he was just trying to get a rise and ignoring would have been the remedy. It’s the same with the media... tell them to fly that kite.. pay them no mind after he’s settled anything that needs an answer.... ignore them.

If so, that in itself is a huge problem.

To get a court order, you have to go through due process application. There must be a record of that process so it can be challenged and reviewed by higher courts if necessary. There is no way around the most basic due process.

There has to be an application. There has to be an order.

If Obama destroyed these mandatory government documents, that in itself is abuse and probably criminal.

Trump cannot reveal classified information, but he can declassify whatever he feels is not sensitive. He is in absolute control as the Chief Executive.

The Obama administration is absolutely screwed in every direction no matter how they try to lie out of this.

Their ONLY out is if Trump was in fact colluding with Russians and the surveillance revealed the collusion. THAT IS IT. That is their ONLY out.

The FISA court would have all that on file. Presumably where Obama couldn't put his hands on them. Unless some minion found a way to get his hands on them. Now there's someone who could be waterboarded.

The Herald is the more conservative paper in Boston.

What I find notable is not a single member of the press puts Obama on the spot asking him, for example, about the 11th hour move to disseminate NSA info across all the agencies without first redacting the private info of Americans caught in their recordings.

Or the truth to the reports in the Times or the Post about the WH rushing to spread the info out to all the agencies, etc.

There is Obama right in DC, but somehow the rabid press can’t be bothered to ask him about any of this.

Obama waltzes in with ZERO valid identification or credentials, a shady radical history, and sits in the Oval Office for 8 years doing nothing but talking down to the people of the USA; stripping our military down to Boy Scout level; defending, aiding and abetting the enemy; refusing to NAME the enemy; increasing our national debt to $20 TRILLION; and NO ONE expected him to continue his destruction once his final term expired. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? And he says he’s protecting his “legacy”. What legacy? The one before or after Leavenworth?

I might ask what was the given reason to ask for the tap. Was it simply a fishing expedition (of course).

And finally, to me the bigger scandal is how the information from those taps were disseminated throughout the Dark State and leaked to the Democrat scribes in the Fake Stream Media.

I suspect Trump's team learned about the surveillance even while it was going on -- which explains why nothing ever came of it. In fact, I'm getting more convinced that they used it to spread disinformation that would undermine Hillary Clinton's campaign.

"TOP SECRET CAMPAIGN STRATEGY MESSAGE: Our focus group surveys consistently show Hillary would get strong positive response from every age and demographic group if she dressed like an oven mitt and called our supporters 'deplorable' and 'irredeemable.'!!"

When the movie Enemy of the State came out, I talked to a fairly high up leftist bureaucrat. He completely dismissed my concerns with exactly this argument.

“No GS-15 in the NSA is going to risk his pension by doing illegal acts like that. It just won’t happen!”

I did not argue further. To a lot of leftists in the U.S., the government can do no wrong.
