Former Director of National Intelligence (DNI) James Clapper on Sunday denied President Trump's allegations that former President Barack Obama wiretapped Trump Tower before the election.
During an interview on NBC's "Meet The Press," Clapper was asked if he would be aware if something like that had happened.
"I would certainly hope so ... Obviously I can't speak officially anymore," Clapper said on NBC's "Meet The Press."
"But I will say that for the part of the national security apparatus that I oversaw as DNI, there was no such wiretap activity mounted against the president-elect at the time, as a candidate, or against his campaign."
Clapper also said he would know if a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) court order existed for "something like this." "And at this point you can't confirm or deny whether that exists?" host Chuck Todd asked.
"I can deny it," Clapper said in response.
"There is no FISA court order," Todd asked.
"Not to my knowledge," Clapper responded.
The president on Saturday claimed Obama had his "wires tapped" at Trump Tower before his presidential victory. He laid out the claims without any evidence and questioned whether it was legal for a sitting president to be "'wire tapping' a race for president prior to an election."
White House press secretary Sean Spicer on Sunday said investigations into Russia's attempts to influence the election should include the president's claim that the Obama administration "abused" its investigation powers in 2016.

That’s right. James Clapper lied under oath to Congress and the American people on a similar matter: spying on Americans.
His veracity quotient is lower than a snake’s belly in a wagon rut, lower than whale **** in the Marianas trench.
He is denying doing something similar to that we know he did, then lied about? You can be sure he’s lying again.

There is another not well known reality, where Clapper could have had Canada, the UK, Australia or New Zealand spy on Trump and any American or Americans without ordering it to be done by the NSA or FBI. Leaving Obama able to say, “I didn’t order the spying on Trump Tower, or as Nixon said decades ago, “I am not a crook!”

#1 and #2 go back to the early days after President Truman got rid of the OSS and established the CIA and the NSA.
Neither one were supposed to spy on American citizens as per their charter.
However, with 5 eyes, we would/could spy on the UK/Brits, Australians, Kiwis and Canadians and let the mother countries know when they might have problems. Then, they would monitor American citizens for us and give us the data on American Citizens. Supposedly the countries mentioned above can’t spy on their own people. Our NSA/CIA/? Could do that and report to the mother country if there was a problem.
Eschelon came about a little later, and with the 5 eyes lateral spying agreement, Echelon became solidified and very functional for decades.
Prism supposedly replaced 5 eyes and Echelon, but the 5 Eyes/Echelon concept was/is still there.
So Obama would not had to ask NSA/FBI to spy on Trump. He could have Clapper ask his counterpart in Canada to monitor Trump Towers and listen in to what was said.
The FBI may have put bugs in or set up electronic interceptions at Trump Towers for their Canadian intel counterparts to monitor all verbal and digital transmission to and from Trump Tower in October of last year until this year up to Trump becoming President.
GW in one of his current mumblings, may have directed us to Canada and the process noted above! So did Canada monitor Trump and his people in Trump Towers, in NYC and then report back to Obama, NSA, FBI and ?, so Obama could deny that he ordered the spying?
Obama is playing a game by saying he didn’t order the FBI?NSA to spy on candidate Trump and his people. Obama probably had Clapper or ? ask his Canadian counterparts to spy on Trump and his people.

1. Putin returns Snowden to America and Trump.
2. Snowden to avoid serious penalties rolls over on Clapper, Brennan and they plead guilty to avoid a nasty trial.
3. They roll over on Obama, the Clintoons, Jarrett, Schumer and Pelosi to avoid a nasty trial.
4. Obama flees to some third world hell hole to avoid prison. The Clintoons, Jarrett, Schumer and Pelosi roll over on their fellow rats and the mediots in bed with them.

Yes, and Obama could then say that they were targeting Russian communications and it’s not their fault if Trump got caught of in the electronic sweep.

He’s not actually lying this time, just non-denying. Parse his actual statement:

I seem to remember Clapper lying to Congress a couple times.
Therefore Clapper has zero credibility.

I tend to agree...Director Clapper also knows he's going to get called to testify in front of Congress and may be signalling his unwillingness to continue playing this game of charades for Obama and his cronies.

Yep and if in fact Clapper really was kept in the dark on this, I think one could fairly call that a “smoking gun.”
Oh, he’s definitely Politically reliable; just not reliable in any other sense.
