Must take one issue, though: I believe Special Prosecutors are a thing of the past. I think I remember the legislation expired some time back, and the Democrats were happy about that, what with what happened to Clinton.

Congress did away with their ability to appoint a special prosecutor, although they could authorize it anytime.

The DOJ’s similar appointment power to investigate Executive Branch is called ‘Office of Special Counsel’.

I believe the independent counsel statute — which had been passed by Democrats in the Carter administration to deal with the aftermath of the Nixon debacle — expired in 1999 after it had been used to beat the sh!t out of Bill Clinton.
