Artificial human life could soon be grown from scratch in the lab, after scientists successfully created a mammal embryo using only stem cells.
Cambridge University mixed two kinds of mouse stem cells and placed them on a 3D scaffold. After four days of growth in a tank of chemicals designed to mimic conditions inside the womb, the cells formed the structure of a living mouse embryo.
The breakthrough has been described as a ‘masterpiece’ in bioengineering, which could eventually allow scientists to grow artificial human embryos in the lab without the need for a sperm or an egg.

Yes, the surrogate trend is very popular with the men.
What’s even worse is when they get an anonymous egg donor and a surrogate from a poor country and then have the product shipped back here to be raised in an environment that is twice removed from the biological “other half” of every cell in the baby’s body. The child is screwed. No one cares, though. The man gets what he wants and that’s all that matters.
When the kid grows enough to start to asking where its mom is, the gay guy pouts and bawls and calls the kid a homophobe. I have read accounts similar to this and some are even calling it modern day slavery, the buying and selling of children.
It does seem like a dystopian sci fi story. Imagine the birth defects that would likely result in euthanization and the dehumanization of a generation of people who are born through such unnatural tinkering. Mental health would be tenuous at best.

I have argued for human beings to have more ownership over their genetic code, that one could sue to stop unauthorized use. But here they won’t need to copy.

Scary. I wish people would wise up about what that “community” is really up to.
I’m not sure you can say that thus engineered entity has no soul. Catholic philosophy says every living thing has a soul (vegetative, Animative, or rational/human) and that the human soul is a spiritual soul.
I would venture that if this entity is alive, it has a soul.
If it has a human genome AND is alive and capable of developing its own tissues, organs, and systems -— including human-type neurological development -— then it’s a living human being with a rational, spiritual soul.
If those IFs are true, and they’re big IFs...
Listen, not every human being can claim that they are proud of their parents but that does not make them less human.
Listen, when this perversion of reproductive science is combined with genome editing technology - human nature predictably indicates the result won’t be human for long.
